Not pregnant or ttc but loving this name at the moment. Is it a bit too much for a non French child? Any opinions please!

I love it.It's beautiful. And no need for a nickname imho.

seaturtle · 07/08/2009 22:12

It's lovely and romantic.

Beauregard · 07/08/2009 22:17

Love it

piscesmoon · 07/08/2009 22:21

I think it is quite nice and unusual, but you will have to be prepared for the fact it will get shortened.

Mouette · 07/08/2009 22:40

Oh Genevieve, sweet Genevieve, the days may come, the days may go... Does anyone know that song?

Ronaldinhio · 07/08/2009 22:42

will she like lance? a lot?

Mouette · 07/08/2009 22:43
Grin

The song is sung (and played) during the film of the same name with Kenneth More, and that lady who I always think is Hannah Gorden but isn't. It's about a car in the vintage London to Brighton car race. The car is called Genevieve. And I love the film, and the car.

As a name I love it, DH isn't so keen, and I am realising that it is becoming quite popular now. I like Evie as a shortening.

Linnet · 07/08/2009 22:48

I love the name Genevieve

LovingtheSilverFox · 07/08/2009 22:49

Genevieve

Dinah Sheridan, that's the lady.

LovingtheSilverFox · 07/08/2009 22:50

Sorry, that link was to the film summary.

Lulubee · 07/08/2009 22:52

I adore it - classic, elegant, and yet can be shortened to make it more informal. It's on my 'hypothetical as yet' shortlist.

loobylu3 · 08/08/2009 09:31

Is it really becoming popular silver fox? I would have thought it is a little too long/ frilly/ French for most people to actually use. I guess it has just received a nearly 100% positive response on here though!
Maybe I will do another thread to see popularity later.

Hey! Nothing wrong with Jenny!

A girl at work is called Genevene and it doesn't get shortened whereas my name (Jennifer) gets shorter the older I get! I was Jennifer when I started school, then Jenny, now everyone calls me Jen!

KembleTwins · 17/08/2009 00:12

I have a friend who's DD is Genevieve, but I didn't realise for months as she shortens it to Evie. I assumed Evie was Evelyn... I think Genevieve is a lovely name.

mathanxiety · 17/08/2009 00:47

I know three and their nns are Vee, Viv, and Viva. I liked the last nn a lot. They're all different ages. One has an Italian surname but the others are Anglo. It doesn't seem to be a name that's ever the flavour of the month, but it's not so unusual and unknown that people are left blank-faced at the mention of it.
