Isn't that the Spanish for Catherine? I think it's very pretty.

DebiNewberry · 22/07/2009 22:51

cheesesarnie · 22/07/2009 22:56

cheesesarnie · 22/07/2009 22:56

hambler · 22/07/2009 22:58

cute

myredcardigan · 22/07/2009 23:36

Which name are you thinking of, Cheesesarnie?

The closest name I can think of is Catriona (think it's the 'eena' sound at the end of both.

valbona · 23/07/2009 08:47

there was an ancient roman politician called catalina, he tried to overthrow the republic ... I had to read many many speeches about him by cicero once upon a time.

sounds nice though, I agree

belgo · 23/07/2009 08:51

Spelt Katelijne in dutch.

peanutbutterkid · 23/07/2009 09:00

It is DD's middle name . I wanted it as first name but DH reckoned that English people would butcher saying it. DD had a phase of wanting to call herself Katie.

BunnyLebowski · 23/07/2009 11:30

Beautiful name!

Could be Lina for short? Which is nice and different.

The only Catalina I can think of is the mexican girl in My Name is Earl!

boodleboot · 23/07/2009 11:37

what name are you thinking of cheesesarnie - Caitlin?

Caitni · 23/07/2009 11:56

There's an island off California called Santa Catalina and the name is popular in parts of Latin America I think. I certainly have Mexican and Colombian friends with Catalinas in their families. I also think it's Portuguese.

I think it's a very pretty version of Catherine if you're looking for a version from another language and is a lot nicer than Caitlin.

MamaLazarou · 23/07/2009 12:09

Katherine of Aragon's name was Catalina.

It's lovely.

GrendelsMum · 23/07/2009 19:48

Oh, I never knew that about Katherine of Aragon! But Catalina makes me think of Ben Jonson's play, 'Cataline his Conspiracy'.

boodleboot · 23/07/2009 20:24

i think it is actually a really gorgeous name and seems to have received an unusuially positive response on mumsnetters so far. i may remember this one for any future offspring of my own....

I know a Catalina, she is Catty for short. I love the name. I think she was named after an island somewhere in the Pacific.

Andie14 · 23/07/2009 20:48

Catalina was the name of the coupon system at Asda head office! Ie if you bought Persil you might get a coupon for 20p of Bold.
Dunno why it was called that mind you!
