Has anyone named their baby after themselves?

Other than the surname, obviously.

Just an idle thought, but I think it was once common for first-born sons to be named after their father, and so on. And American sons might be Dadsname Junior, II, III, IV.

Anyone done it/come across it?

Like George Foreman you mean? All his sons are called George.

Good points (didn't know about George Foreman), but I really meant ordinary mortals.

DH said if we had a son, he'd like to name "His Name" Junior and the child to be known as AJ. But this was 10 years ago when he told me, and when I was pg with DD, that idea never came up again when we were discussing names, thank God . We now have a few alternative son names lined up for the future, to avoid having "AJ"

Not first names, but my dd1 has my first name as her middle name. (this is a tradition in dh's family. The pfb child is given either mother or father's first name as a middle name. We cheated slightly, she has the shortened form of my first name, but I am always known by the shortened form)

My DS is Jamie, my DH is James and DH's dad is Jim! Having another DS is about a weeks time (hopefully anyway!) and still no idea what to call him, won't be James the second though LOL

I can see how that might work, Thumbwitch. My mother used always to have the name of the latest addition to the family lodged in her head, so I was for years called by the dog's name, then eventually by my SIL's name (huh).

Now she has 5 grandchildren she doesn't know what to call anyone.

My grandad just used to run through the list of female relatives names until he got to the right one; I didn't mind that, I did mind if he used the male rellies as well!

It's a very popular concept on Merseyside, I know a lot of sons named after their fathers.

My nephew has his dad's name as his middle name and DP has his dad's name as his middle name.

A while ago we were discussing what we would call our hypothetical baby boy and DP said that he would be named after him. I told him that I didn't see why we should name a boy after him when I didn't insist on dd being named after me!

Would never name a child after myself. My name is crap!

One year on hol, met a guy called Torquil who said he was named after father, grandfather and the rest of his family. By all means have a first born son family name, but choose carefully. Think he was relieved to only have girls

It is very unusual in women, and I am sort of proud of it for that reason. However, I must admit I would struggle to use it if I had a daughter, so for that reason, am quite relieved to have had sons

dds middle names is my grandmothers and her mothers.

DD's middle name is also my middle name, my aunt's first name and an elderly relation's first name. I like that it's on its fourth generation, and I would love it if it carried on.

We gave dd2 my middle name, and thought it would be nice to start a tradition of that name passing down.

My great-grandmother had seven daughters and obviously ran out of names because she named the youngest (my grandmother) after herself. And it's my DD1's name.

I am considering using my maiden name as a forename if I have a son. It is one of those names that can be both.

My DS has my DH's middle name as a middle name (which also happens to be my grandfather's middle name, my brother's middle name, and DS's Godfather's first name...bet you can guess it!)

DD has my maternal Grandmother's middle name as her middle name.

Never considered using DH and my first names as names - too confusing for one thing, but also I don't like my own name that much, and TBH I think it would just feel a bit weird sharingf my name with my DC.

my DP is the 4th in his family with the same name (him, his father, his grandfather, and greatgrandfather). We're expecting a boy, and it is NOT having his name! Partly because nobody in the UK can pronounce it, but mainly because my DP gets really fed up with his dad opening his mail, signing forms for him, and generally getting confused over which is which. He says it's OK now they live in different countries, but when they both lived in the same country he found it hugely irritating.

I have my mum's name as a middle name, and brother has dad's name as his middle name, which is nice.
