Spelling for Anouska/Anoushka and other names like it

I'm 38 weeks and we have come up with a single name other than my firm fave Anouska/Anoushka.
(Your ideas on spelling?).
What other names do you think of along these lines?

Thanks!

I think Anoushka might be easier for people to pronounce properly.

It is a lovely name by the way!

EyeballsintheSky · 12/07/2009 07:53

Anastacia is a wicked singer. Go for it

I'd spell Anouska with as few letters as possible. It can look really fussy if you start sticking random letters in and you're not Russian.

EyeballsintheSky · 12/07/2009 07:56

Meant to add that I know an Alexandra who is known as Alenka. Think that's really pretty.

justlookatthatbooty · 12/07/2009 18:09

Great suggestions! thanks....

hhmmm food for thought for tonight. We only get 3 days to name the child where I live (not uk obviously!) which is utterly ridiculous. So we need to be organised and I'm 38 weeks.

Keep em rolling!

my bump (currently nearly 30 weeks) is going to be an Anoushka if it's a girl
beautiful name!

Our first dd had Anielka as her middle name (pron Ann-ee-ell-ka)

jkklpu · 12/07/2009 21:48

Anoushka is an affectionate nn for Anna, alternative to Anya. Very pretty.
Anastasia is harder to pull off, depending on the surname. Once met a woman who'd called her daughter this and made a big thing about saying that she'd decided to go with the long Russian AnastAHsia, the irony being that she'd still gone for the non-Russian stress on the 3rd syllable (in Russian it's on the 4th and the nn is Nastya). If you're going to be poncey, do it properly, I say.

I prefer Alexandra, I think.
Alicia good, too (Enid Blyton connotations ...)

justlookatthatbooty · 15/07/2009 16:15

Thanks for your responses. Some lovely suggestions from you ladies and still considering options but think we will go for Anouska/Anoushka but can't decide on spelling! Terrible trying to make these sorts of decisions when pregnant, esp as we only have 3 days to name her here in Holland. What are the council thinking? Who knows anything 3 days after giving birth? Ridiculous.
Hmmmm. Anouska, Anoushka, Anouska, Anoushka.........

A friend of ours is called Anouchka.

Caitni · 24/07/2009 13:53

Anoushka gets my vote

jjklpu lol at that woman - "If you're going to be poncey, do it properly, I say" - well said!

Babedestiny · 21/06/2010 01:04

haha..i named my daughter anouska...lovely name n unique...but i realise now that it is also an indian name...which i am regretting alot.............haha....anyway ur choice.......n all the best

mathanxiety · 21/06/2010 05:57

I think 'Anoushka' is better.

How about Agnetha? Agnieszka? I know they're different names, but nice all the same.

Apphia · 23/06/2010 06:59

The european spelling of 'Anouska' is 'Anuszka' I believe... well what my friend with a polish father is called.

Lovely name

Superfly · 23/06/2010 09:00

I work with a girl whose name is Agnieska - but we call her 'Anouska' - is this the pronounciation of it?

BessieBoots · 23/06/2010 09:07

I don't think that you should worry too much about the singer calles Anastasia, your dd probably won't know of her.

diplodoris · 23/06/2010 09:18

I'd go for the spelling Anoushka.

diplodoris · 23/06/2010 09:23

Natasha

pernickety · 23/06/2010 09:24
