Haha!

TEJQ · 28/06/2009 21:58

Hmm sounds like a name I'd come across in my work as a foster carer... named by parents who wanted an 'individual' name, so made one up.

Sorry sounds desperately chavvy.

Firawla · 28/06/2009 23:00

really dislike it, atleast make it Kaitlin
the "land" part sounds silly

slowreadingprogress · 28/06/2009 23:42

why not just call her Kate? Katharine is a lovely, classy name, I can't even type Kaitland in the same sentence!!!

SoupDragon · 29/06/2009 07:29

Pretty much everyone will pronounce Caitlin Kate-Lin.
Pretty much everyone will think you were unable to spell Caitlin correctly if you used Kaitland.

SoupDragon · 29/06/2009 07:31

I keep singing the Paul Simon song "Graceland" in my head.

I'm going to Kaitland, Kaitland, in Memphis Tennessee. I'm going to Kaitland.."

"Pretty much everyone will pronounce Caitlin Kate-Lin.

I agree with Soupdragon (although I much prefer the original pronounciation of Caitlin rather than the horrible modern Americanised version of it). Your DD will spend her life wearily explaining her name to people.

pagwatch · 29/06/2009 12:21

I have never met a Caitlin who pronounced it CAT - lin. Tis always Kate-lin ( and DD has a couple in her class).

Kaitland is beyond dreadful

kando · 29/06/2009 12:22

It's Catherine/Katherine/Kathryn etc which is the Greek for "pure" no Kaitland! (I have a "Katharyn") Sorry, but I think Kaitland is a bit .... strange ...

muggglewump · 29/06/2009 12:26

Good greif no.
It'll just make you look incredibly thick.

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/06/2009 12:34

LOL!

And that's what everyone will think when you tell them how your dd's name is spelt.

They will also think you're a bit dozy.

No, no, no, just use Caitlin or Katelyn. Not land fgs.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 29/06/2009 12:42

It is not a Greek name in any sense. The 'pure' thing is because it is assumed to be a derivative form of Katherine, which does derive from a Greek word meaning pure.
I agree with everyone else - don't do it. Your DH is correct about the original pronunciation of Caitlin, but since almost everyone pronounces it Katelyn now, I don't see why you shouldn't rather than lumbering the poor child with that godawful name.
