Baby names

Anakin. Do you like it? (not with Skywalker as middle name. Nor Darth for that matter)

Not serious...?

Well I suppose his school teachers throughout his life would get a great laugh and fabulous mileage out of it. As for future employers, LOL, can you imagine the questions at every job interview - what if he became a high court judge or a politician - fun.

Remember babies with cute/quaint/unusual names become grown up people who are saddled with their parents eccentricities in name choice.

Girl or boy? Never heard of it. Don't think much of it though.

I think Walker is a nice name for a boy,Skywalker isn't however.

DH has a Star Wars name, and everyone comments on it - even Customs officers have made a joke of it. He doesn't mind it too much but does get bored of it all. He's a huge Star Wars fan, which probably helps. His mum didn't think the films were going to be that popular (in 1984...) so thought that it wouldn't be a problem.

Aside from the Star Wars reference, I do quite like it.

dd2 was in hospital last year opposite a little boy called Anakin, and he had a twin brother called Luke.

It reminds me too much of Clerks II where he's referred to as 'Mannequin Skywalker' because the acting is so wooden and crappy.

Gosh. I really like it. I wouldn't do it, but I would secretly admire someone who did.

It just sounds lovely, doesn't it? Heroic, but also gentle.

It's too nice a name to be hidden away imho, and it doesn't flow well with Magnus.

Reality - not Obi Wan! It's more of an unfortunate coincidence of first name and surname rather than a specific Star Wars name IYSWIM?

Lando Calrissian is a cool character.....couldn't you have an Orlando and call him Lando?

i quite like it, ds and dh are both massive start wars fans and ds has said that when he has a baby brother he will call him anakin, (although 6m ago it was thomas). my cousin is called Luke Skye Walker.

George Lucas? Mark Hamill? (Am assuming, 20th, it's not Carrie Fisher, bcs that would be irksome for dh at customs)

My ringtone is R2D2. Fine in mother mode. Not so good in meetings.

Rofl@ Anakin. Admittedly and thankfully I have never seen Star Wars, but talk about try-hard. Worst name I have ever heard, even on Mumsnet.

Well I'm not normally superstitious about names, but you would be kind of asking for him to turn to the dark side as soon as he became a teenager...
If I ever met an Anakin I'd certainly be a little wary...

It would have been alright except for the Star Wars connection - why saddle a child with that?

My brother had a friend called Damien. He took a LOT of stick after the film The Omen came out (he was born in 1969, the film came out in 1976), and his name since then has been synonymous with evil!

It's truly awful. It sounds like Anadin, and 99% of people upon hearing his name will instantly mention Star Wars. The other 1% will just laugh. It's too try-hard and fanboy and just downright silly.
