What about Lucinda if you like the shortened Lulu?

Bonneville · 15/06/2009 22:43

I too just see Louse and Lousie.

Karam · 15/06/2009 23:31

Sorry, I'd drop the 'u' too. Eloisa is a name in its own right... so I'd go for that. HTH

mollymawk · 16/06/2009 00:13

See, I would spell it Eleusia (I've seen that someowhere). Then you avoid the "lousie" association. But I would never aim to have 3 DDs all starting with El.

FAQinglovely · 16/06/2009 00:36

have to say The Shack (which isn't at all odd IMO) sprung to my mind too (haven't looked at the website - didn't realise there was one).

But then I did stay up until 3.30 this morning reading it as I couldn't put it down

boodleboot · 16/06/2009 07:26

...read the 1st page of the book.....how funny.

i love the name, 'daft' or not. it sounds so pretty.

There's a child I know called Elysia - would there be less chance for mispronunciation with that?

boodleboot · 16/06/2009 07:42

mollymawk i like the spelling you have suggested.

its such a shame that Elousia looks so bad written down...i have to conceed that point....i'd be an idiot not to...she wouldn't thank me for calling her lousy...boo.

i don't understand why people don't like the idea of three girls beginning with El but thats the beauty of MN - diverse opinions. My Step DD is called Ellesse - my DD is called Ellie. its just how it worked out, wasn't choice but they love it.

Have to say, this name has been in my 'threads I'm on' for 3 days and it's really growing on me!

mollymawk's spelling does look a bit better I think, though 'lousy' and 'lousier' would never have occured to me, as it obviously looks like the 'ou' should be pronounced 'oo'.

thumbwitch · 16/06/2009 09:19

just for fun I was looking up Elysia because of its connection with the Elysian Fields, the blessed home of the souls of the dead - and discovered that Elysia is also the name of a genus of sea slugs! Possibly a variation to avoid then...

I like Eleusia much better than the original - much less room for mispronunciation.

boodleboot · 16/06/2009 11:18

Elysia is gorgeous. I think it means Heaven or another word for it or something like that

eh-lee-see-ah or Eh-liss-ee-ah pronounciation?

boodleboot, did you see my previous post?

boodleboot · 16/06/2009 16:03

yeah i did thumbwitch but people in RL just don't look things up in the same way that MN-ers do....no one would know that except for you ha ha....
