How many Jacks do you know?

I'm aware it's been number 1 on the names list for years now but I don't actually know any LO's called Jack and the couple of baby friends I asked didn't either.

In case you hadn't guessed I really like this name but with 1 DS called what seems like the most popular name in our area right now (Harry ) I'm loathe to choose another one even more popular even though it's the only one we both like!!
Any thoughts?

Jack is a really nice name even if it is popular so I think you should go for it if you like it. Harry is popular too and you already have one of those. I think you just like classic names and they happen to be popular the moment!

LyraSilvertongue · 03/06/2009 13:04

I know loads of Jacks.
What about Jackson if you want to be a little bit different?

shoobidoo · 03/06/2009 13:06

Apart from having to share your name with potentially several others in your class (and be known as Jack A, Jack B etc.), the other consideration with such hugely popular names are that they may 'date' more than less popular ones.

In other words in 10-20 years, Jack and Emily will be to the 2000s what Sharon and Stephen are to the 1970s... Of course, that may not bother you - just a thought

ohdearwhatamess · 03/06/2009 13:53

Lots - youngest 6 months, oldest 12 years. Most are in the 0-2 age group.

PremenstrualChickens · 03/06/2009 13:56

My DS1, and five others in his year group of 60 I really, really love the name though

TitsalinaBumsquash · 03/06/2009 13:57

My DS2 is Called Harry and as i said before DS1 is Jack, don't worry about it being 'popular' it just means its a nice name every child has a different personality and is individual regardless of name.

Fimbo · 03/06/2009 14:03

Every second boy in both my dd's junior school and ds's first school are called Jack.

Personally we must know at the very minimum 20.

suwoo · 03/06/2009 14:04

Hi Ann, Yes sorry . Will reply now.

troutpout · 03/06/2009 14:11

1
dd has none in her year group
Harry,Ben,Adam,Christopher are in multiples though

Fimbo · 03/06/2009 14:14

I only know 1 Adam and thats my own!

Harry, Ben & Sam are also popular here.

Egg · 03/06/2009 14:16

I know about 4 or 5 Jacks. Two of whom have a brother called Harry .

Still think both names are great though.

Hulababy · 03/06/2009 14:19

None in the Y1 class I teach at.
None in our friends and family groups, nor siblings of DD's school friends.
Was 1 in DD's nursery.

Hulababy · 03/06/2009 14:20

Oh, I do know one - DH's grandad is Jack, although his real name is John James.

Pollyanna · 03/06/2009 14:25

Not many actually. I think I know 2 - (where I live you seem to be more likely to come across Hawk, Spike, Inigo etc) - so I know of one in ds1s year (age 10) none in dd1s year (age 8), none in dd2s year (age 6) , none in dd3s nursery, one 2yo that I know of.
I haven't met any baby Jack's recently at my ds2s toddler groups etc.

TheOddOne · 03/06/2009 14:41

I know 3 - they are 5, 8 and 87 .

magbags · 03/06/2009 14:58

I know of 2 (people at work talking about relatives etc) but don't actually know any. There are none at my dd's nursery or playgroup. It's on our shortlist too but also concerned about popularity. It's a safe choice but not sure if that's good or bad iyswim .

TabithaTwitchet · 03/06/2009 15:14

I know a 10 year old Jack, and a 97 year old one! - none of DD's (17 months ) friends or nursery contemporaries are called Jack.

barnsleybelle · 03/06/2009 15:24

I know lots of Jack's and Alex's and Lewis's. All 3 are very popular around here.
If you like it and it's your favourite name then use it.
