we have one dd called Abbie and up until about a week ago were fairly struck on Isabel, now I'm not too convinced! main worry is that it will be shortened to Izzy and Abbie and Izzy don't sound right together!! dh likes Georgia but I'm not 100%

Any other suggestions that go really well with dd1's name?

I think Abbie and Izzy sounds fine! Although if you don't want to shorten Isabel then don't. Personally, i don't like the nickname Izzy.
That being said, Georgia is lovely too.

llynnnn · 28/05/2009 14:11

I dont want to shorten Isabel but think that its a natural thing that would happen (i dont really like the nickname either!). If I could ban it from ever being shortened I would be fine with it!

Could you use Belle as a nn? Very pretty and such a lovely meaning...

RedCharityBonney · 28/05/2009 14:23

Abbie and Izzie sounds good to me too - though if you don't want the names shortened, do speak up as people will do it otherwise.

Georgia is nice but Isabel is nicer. My personal preference is for Isobel, but I'm a fusspot.

Tulia · 28/05/2009 14:27

i think Isabel is a very pretty name.
and i also think Abbie and Izzie sounds fine together.

but as polksalad said you could use Belle as a nickname (i prefer belle to izzie myself).

Tulia · 28/05/2009 14:28

or use isabella and use bella as a nn?

jellybeans · 28/05/2009 14:42

I like Isabelle and Belle as a nn.

llynnnn · 28/05/2009 14:45

thanks for your replies, i do quite like Belle for a nn, if anything! I can see myself being one of those mums who are the only person on the planet who uses their dc's 'full' name when everyone else knows them as a nn!!

I think you should go with Isabel, it's a lovely name. You can call her Isabel, Izzy, Belle, Bella, Sabs, Issa.. etc etc, or something that isn't even related to her name- fear not it sounds lovely with Abbie. Use it to start with and if you don't like it by the time you need to register then change your mind- see how it goes.

Madmentalbint · 28/05/2009 16:42

I love the name Isabel - it's beautiful.
It sounds fine with Abbie.

llynnnn · 28/05/2009 17:48

thanks sockmonster and madmental for the reassurance, i do still love it and cant think of ANY alternatives!!

Go for it then.

I either call my daughter by her full name or Lamb or Mouse. My husband calls her love-bug (our nn for her when I was pregnant).

Jux · 28/05/2009 21:00

We knew our daughter's name - we had chosen it long before she was born (and didn't actually know she was a girl until she was born). The instant we looked at her we knew it was wrong. Took us ages to choose one that suited her.

My point is that you can't tell until she's born.

mumtoo3 · 28/05/2009 21:54

We have an Isabelle and we shorten it to Is, Belle, Izzie, Bellbell, Izzwizz and few which cant be mentioned what i am is saying is there are other ways to shorten it.

clairebear88 · 30/05/2009 09:42

very weird as my 2 favourite girls names are Abbie and Isabel. Go for it as Isabel is a pretty name. it is very popular in my area at the mo along with isabella but I will still use it if I ever get the chance. I just hope I have twin girls as I wont have to choose between them

llynnnn · 30/05/2009 10:34

thanks girls, will bear that in mind Jux, dont think we will decide for definite until she is born though and havent told anyone in RL so dont have that pressure!!

hope you get your wish Clairebear!
