My favourite classical Greek name is Clytemenestra, wouldn't inflict it on a British child though!

I have a Cypriot friend called Eleni (emphasis on middle syllable) which I think is gorgeous, obviously lots of Greek people agree with me! Other Cypriot friends with classical names are called Antigoni (emph. on the ON), and Machi (short for Andromachi, soft CH like Loch.)

numal · 27/05/2009 20:20

tostaky, not greek but roman, Antonia is a gorgeous name but much underused IMO.

Verity79 · 27/05/2009 20:59

I have an Alethea (mainly known as Thea) but if current pg is a girl (5 days and counting til 2nd scan) we will be calling her......

Callia Ianthe

I love Iphigenia. I was tempted to call Thea that as my DD1 is Lilith so I could have had Ithy and Iphy I'm so sad .

I also loved Ariadnae, Ariane, Thekla, Briseis (also known as Cressida by Shakespeare), Iris to name but a few I have crushed on in the past.

dizzydixies · 27/05/2009 22:14

Callia is lovely

we toyed with Cassia for DD3 but were worried it would be shortened to Cassie which was name of friend's dog
