Right have no idea of sex so need two sets of names, and currently have a shortlist (!) of about 20 for each, Please give me your opinions on these, I think they flow and are not too 'out there' but are not as well used as jack and emily iyswim (which happen to be particular favourites but for various reasons can not be used) So be as honest as you like

Florence Rose

Beatrice Flora

Annabelle Rose

Imogen Flora

and

Arthur Edward

Alistair Stuart

Frederick Arthur

Matthew Edward

TIA

Florence Rose and Beatrice Flora

Arthur Edward and Frederick Arthur

get my votes. They are all names we considered.

I'm not keen on Alistair Stuart - too Scottish unless you are Scottish of course!

PortBlacksandResident · 22/05/2009 20:20

Beatrice Rose i like.

Arthur is a firm favourite with me.

sockmonster · 22/05/2009 20:24

Florence Rose - lovely

Beatrice Flora- no. Beatrice fine with another mn

Annabelle Rose- yes

Imogen Flora- no. Flora makes it sound like some obscure infection, sorry, and Imogen not great, imho

and

Arthur Edward-not bad, I know a 10yo arthur who loves the history of his name

Alistair Stuart- NO, itv news reader. Don't like either name

Frederick Arthur- no, too ancient imo, sorry. I get the 'freddy' nn or whatever, but overall I think it's bad

Matthew Edward- nice, but bland.

Florence Rose is my favourite

peppapig3 · 22/05/2009 20:29

I'm with changer- these pairs are lovely but the others aren't bad at all!

Heated · 22/05/2009 20:30

Beatrice Flora and Arthur Edward are simply beautiful

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 22/05/2009 20:31

We aren't scottish but have a Very scottish sounding surname so I guess Alistair stuart is out (That dh's fav btw [wink}

tbh I'm much happier with the girls names than the boys, my most favourite favourite is Edward Arthur (not on list I know) but this is the exact same initials as DD1 and would cause tooo many problems in the future I think....

Beatrice Flora and Frederick Arthur are the best of your combos though I like them all.

LadyMetroland · 23/05/2009 11:40

I vote Imogen - lovely name

and for a boy I'd go for Alistair if you were Scottish, if not then Matthew

oandemum · 25/05/2009 21:11

i like imogen, but flora not so great, reminds me of margarine, sorry. matthew the best of the boys names, and not so popular anymore

jellybeans · 26/05/2009 10:03

Imogen Rose
Matthew Frederick

HellHathNoFury · 26/05/2009 15:59

Annabelle Rose
or Imogen Rose. Don't like Flora

Matthew Edward

Nbg · 26/05/2009 16:06

From your list I like
Florence Rose as it can be shortened to Flo which I love and Beatrice Flora as I like Bea.

For the boys I like Frederick Arthur as I like Fred.

If its the older names you like what about Rosalind for a girl and Ernie for a boy?
Just something else to confuse you

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 26/05/2009 20:06

Thanks for all your thoughts, dh and I have discussed again

atm we are veering towards either Annabelle Rose (dh's fav) and Beatrice Flora (I my head for most of the preg so difficult to move away from iyswim) but I still like Florence- Imogen has been dropped!

As for the boys Jack Edward or Arthur Edward (I know Jack wasn't on the list and it's terribly common but I really don't know a sigle one).

Thanks once again for your thoughts tis nice to get a non partisan perspective!

I don't think Beatrice Flora sounds right to my ears Beatrice Florence is better IMHO

Annabelle Rose is my fav out of two...

Arthur Edward is legendary tho - i love it.

thirtysomething · 26/05/2009 20:57

Love all of them - Beatrice or Florence Rose my fave from your girl list, then any combo of Arthur/Matthew/Edward from your boy list

By the way at our school of over 400 kids there's only one Jack so i don't think it's too popular (and it's a really cool name)

thell · 26/05/2009 21:29

All lovely!
(although Alistair Stewart is a newsreader ! - but Alistair is a lovely name)

For what it's worth, I don't think bro & sis having the same initials should cause a problem, should it? The boys names we came up with when pg with DD gave the same initials, and we may well end up with them next time round (we hardly ever agree on names).

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 26/05/2009 21:39

thell- it's more of a problem for us as DD2 has serious health issues that wil always make her different anyway iyswim, we wouldn't want to compound that difference in any way
Thank you all for your input feel as though we are on the right track, and hoping to make a decsion VERY soon as I'm 39+1 now
