My late grandma's name. She lived until age ninety seven and was always known as Vi. I agree with your DP, better as a middle name. My grandma was called it in the days when people had so many children they ran out of names so it came from when my great grandad brought my great grandma some violets after she had given birth. She was named after the flowers he brought. Quite romantic really.
