I am 5 months pregnant to a little girl. My husband likes the name Jasmine because when he was little he had a dog called jasmine.
i think it is not good to name a child after a dog and i hate it. I need help!

I love it!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 17/05/2009 20:48

I think it's very pretty but can see why you wouldn't want to name your dd after you dh's dog!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 17/05/2009 20:49

BTW - I think it's a very strange name for a dog

CarryJohnson · 17/05/2009 20:51

I would not mind the name to much if it hadn't been named after a dog.

DD1 is called Jasmine so obviously I love it - we picked it as it is pretty name for when she is little but can be shortened to Jas for when she is a bit older and wants something snappier!

I'd find it difficult to call my dd a name that his dog was called though. There are lots of other lovely flower names if that is what you like.

I know a dog called Jasmine too ... shades of Henry "Indiana" Jones here? Any chance of a compromise and use Jasmine as a middle name?

sockmonster · 18/05/2009 13:22

I started a thread on Jasmine because when I was 7 or 8 years old I had a hamster called Jasmine, and really didn't know if I could get over that association.

That said, I think Jasmine is a very pretty name. You don't seem keen, how about you pick the first name and then use Jasmine as a middle name?

Fimbo · 18/05/2009 13:23

What about Yasmin?

DobbyDooDah · 18/05/2009 15:41

i think this is a DISCRACEFUL name. i have always hated it & i no someone called it that i dont like.

Jojay · 18/05/2009 15:42

I love it and would use it if DS wasn't called Jasper

Fimbo · 18/05/2009 16:24

I think calling it disgraceful is a bit ott.

ohdearwhatamess · 18/05/2009 19:33

It is lovely. I have a good friend with that name.

Very unusual name for a dog though, so not a dog's name imo.

passmethegin · 18/05/2009 19:56

I think it's lovely.
DobbyDooDah, how can a name be disgraceful?

GossipMonger · 18/05/2009 19:57

I like it.

DH wanted it if the boys had been girls.

He liked the shortening to Jazz!!

Not sure I would have used it as I prefer Annabel but it is pretty.

tummytickler · 18/05/2009 20:27

I think Jasmine is incredibley boring to be honest, I think it is just one of those that i have a completely irrational dislike for!
i do agree though with the dog trouble - i would have real trouble naming a child the same name as a pet (even a long dead one!)

I think Jasmine is a gorgeous name, though not for a dog.

Quiltedrose · 23/05/2009 20:34

It's a beautiful name but don't like Jas either. It's DD1's (age 3) favourite for DD2 (due in 6 weeks) but I know too many Jasmines both adult and child, most of whom are lovely but it is just too common in my life.
