It isn't a name I would choose unless I had Italian/ Hispanic connections.

There's a bloke at work with a broad Scottish accent who's called Emile... it doesn't sit quite right at all (he's got a British surname so not sure who the French person in his family is)

I'd use it but I have hispanic and Italian family, and I already have a cousin with the name so it's out.

It's a bit frilly, but not completely off-limits. I think it be unusual but useable if the baby had dark features. It would be weird on a blonde/blue eyed baby, and would be best with a simple surname..

Put that way 'a child with English parentage' then yes, it is a bit odd. On the other hand, no-one is going to know just by looking exactly what his parentage is so if you like it, why not?

Who would care if you have a bone fide Italian grandad or not to name the baby after?

Aren't we meant to be an multicultural society, whereupon influences from other countries are all around us on a daily basis so we see/hear a variety of different names and get to like them on their own merits?

If you are asking, I suspect that you are not comfortable with it, even if you like it.

I have a Carribean middle name, but am English, blonde and blue eyed. I have spent the last 30 something years explaining and justifying it. And that's a middle name!

Miles is along the same lines, but "unremarkable" for an English child.

I think it sounds unusual but i really love it. It sounds much better than anything normal like Timothy or Joseph.

BikeRunSki, I have a very typically French name and have never (in my conscious memory) been asked to justify or explain it even though my surname is very typically English.

And no, it's not Chanel or anything French-sounding, or even popular/common.

Perhaps a Caribbean name or an Asian name on an English person is more unusual but Emilio being a European name, wouldn't raise that many comments, I wouldn't have thought.

I suppose it will depend more on how the Kid will carry it off...i.e. is the Kid gonna be feisty or is the Kid gonna be likely to be quite, erm, sedate...
you see my german cousin and her german dh named their ds Enrico....which is a nice enough name, but before they had him it made me giggle, because they are both on the plump and lethargic side and well look like typical country bumpkins....and well, Enrico sounded a bit ridiculous, you see....
now he is a lovely handsome little lad and all that, and one has gotten used to his name, but well, he is kinda very sedate and Enrico sort of doesn't seem to fit....
