Name him Theodore or Edward on his birth certificate, and then call him Bear. I think its much kinder.

Not as a real name, no.
a nickname, I like it.
My nephew is called Bear by his immediate family, it might stick into adulthood.
My son is Theodore, and I call him bear, but not all the time.

Bear Grylls is called Edward, but I do think Bear suits him.

Its a nice nickname but a dreadful first name - he will have the shit ripped out of him for the rest of his life!

I much prefer Giraffe myself.
