Zephaniah or Magnus - which do you prefer and why?

not sure if dc3 will be boy or girl but still undecided about boy names.
Think these two are my favourites but sure others will surface in the next 20 weeks!

dd is Phoenix and ds is Cassian, if that has any bearing.

I prefer Zephaniah because it makes me think of the poet, whereas Magnus makes me think of Mastermind . . .

bluebump · 02/05/2009 10:23

My Danish friend has a Magnus and I like it.

EachPeachPearMum · 02/05/2009 11:09

Zephaniah is too biblical for me.

NorkilyChallenged · 02/05/2009 11:10

I personally prefer Magnus but I think Zephaniah goes better with your other names

yama · 02/05/2009 11:11

Magnus - a good strong name.

Zephaniah - too twiddly.

jellybeans · 02/05/2009 11:52

Zephaniah is my fave by a mile, mainly as I like Zeph, and it sounds more 'cool'. Matches your other DC names better too. Magnus reminds me of an old man, sorry. Stick with Zephaniah!!

LilyBolero · 02/05/2009 12:12

Magnus - lovely name
Zephaniah - not at all keen I'm afraid

pointydog · 02/05/2009 12:26

Magnus. Same reasons as yama

TabithaTwitchet · 02/05/2009 13:24

I prefer Magnus for the same (or rather for totally opposite) reasons as Wordweaver.

SowpDragon · 02/05/2009 13:26

Zephaniah. Mainly because Magnus is such a dumpy kind of name in my mind.

LetThemEatCake · 02/05/2009 19:06

friend at a party this afternoon asked me about names and looked absolutely gobsmacked and appalled when I mentioned Magnus.

Turns out she thought I was saying Madness. Which is an adequate reflection of my state of mind, tbh...

Magnus. What yama said.

troutpout · 02/05/2009 19:18

Magnus

GrendelsMum · 10/05/2009 21:43

Zephaniah - makes me think of the poet, which is definitely a good thing. On the other hand, it does have an awful lot of syllables in if your surname is also long.

Magnus - makes me think of Orkney and St Magnus, which is also a very good thing.

Why not call him Magnus Zephaniah, or Zephaniah Magnus and he can pick whichever he prefers?

pasturesnew · 10/05/2009 21:46

Magnus, as Zephaniah could be shortened to "fanny" in the playground

yogabird · 10/05/2009 21:47

magnus - shorter

jellybeans · 11/05/2009 09:43

I don't think Zephaniah will be shortened to 'fanny', I know a Stefan and he isn't.

MrsMattie · 11/05/2009 10:46

I know a Zeph. He is a 6'4 Jamaican guy, though, not a dinky little blonde boy, so that's my association of the name

I don't like Magnus at all.

sockmonster · 11/05/2009 16:07

I don't like Magnus it sounds boring and scary and nerdy and dutch all at once. I prefer Zephaniah.. however it's pretty hard for a 4 year old to write daily, and it really reminds me of Stephanie or Stefania so it sounds quite girly. Zeph is cool though.

MsMargotBeauregarde · 11/05/2009 19:56

I like Magnus because it's a good strong name. I know it's Scottish but there's an Irish version Manus which I also like.

Zephaniah sounds like one of that american woman's octuplets - sorry. Stephan would make a good brother name to a Magnus thoguh.

LetThemEatCake · 13/05/2009 21:14

I have to say that I am leaning towards Magnus this week. It sounds regal, which is one of the reasons I liked Cassian.

Had my 20w scan today and managed to NOT find out the sex. Just think!! all of this agonising could have been over...

Magnus. I really don't like Zephania, probably because I don't like the poet at all. Zeph sounds quite cute though!

bumpsoon · 14/05/2009 11:55

we had a black labrador called magnus so i will always associate it with wet noses and a background smell of fox poo

dinkymum · 14/05/2009 13:33

Magnus because to m it seems a much stronger name and more versatile for the future person he may become Hth

kittywise · 14/05/2009 13:34

oh God
