Struggling for girls' names for DC3 (DD1)

2HotCrossBunsAnd1InTheOven · 30/04/2009 10:51

I have posted here before and despite everyone telling me girls names are easier we are really struggling to come up with a name we both like! We have a few weeks yet before she is due to be born but I can't see us getting any nearer! Current suggestions are for me:

Darcy/Darcey
Lauren
Eden
Casey
Rowan
Madison

and for DH:
Esther
Lucy

DH has vetoed all my suggestions except Darcey and whilst I like his choices I don't think Esther "goes" with our DSs' names and Lucy is too "boring" (no offence!). We currently have 2 DSs called Harrison and Austen - so surname type names but that are also "proper" names iyswim.

Any help gratefully received!

Rowan is beautiful IMO I like like those lovely androgenous nature names

LittleMissNorty · 30/04/2009 10:54

If my DS had been another DD, she would have been called Erin. I like Rowan as well....lovely.

2HotCrossBunsAnd1InTheOven · 30/04/2009 11:07

Erin was on our list for DS2 as a suggestion from DH but he has changed his mind on that name too!

I love Rowan too for both boys and girls but I have a cousin Rowan (girl) and my brother's ex girlfriend who he loved dearly was also Rowan. So not sure we can use it... sigh...

I like Rowan and Erin (would have used Erin myself but 2 friends already had Erins).

BunnyLebowski · 30/04/2009 11:10

Rowan and Esther are the only truly nice names on your list. Esther is beautiful.

Lucy and Lauren are ok but a bit boring.

Darcy, Eden, Casey and Madison are all horrible.

I think 3 surnames for surnames might be a bit too much, particularly as your new baby is going to be a girl.

sockmonster · 30/04/2009 11:40

Darcy/Darcey - It's quite ballet frills cute but reminds me of Colin Firth

Lauren - I like this as it's sturdy but not as classic as Laura or Lucy

Eden- beautiful, but Marcia Cross used it and I always hate to accidentally copy those from the pages of heat magazine

Casey - blah

Rowan - Mr Bean?

Madison - Noooo!!!!!!!!!! No No NO! Please no

Esther - Rantzen, not my favourite but it may be time for a revival. How about Stella? Estelle? Estrella?

Lucy - I love the name Lucy, meaning light/bringer of light. Great history. It is classic, nobody can really hate it. If you feel it is too boring, try altering it Lucie? Lucienne? My favourite is Lucia (loo- see-a)

A name I secretly love is Arwen (as in Lord of The Rings elf princess) but it is also a real name, massively underused, and I think it would fit well with your sons' names.

Madison is my least favourite it has to be said and might be odd with a Harrison already! I like Maddy though (but not Madeleine).

Robyn is my sister's middle name! And I have to confess I had not considered it...um, am now though!

RachieB I have a boys list just in case and Ellis is on that, love it! In fact I have 5 or 6 boys names I love, just finding girls so tricky. But I am thrilled that DC3 is going to be a girl

sleeplessinstretford · 30/04/2009 22:35

i know 2 male rowans and no male brontes or brodies-so,in my head they are female names...

2HotCrossBunsAnd1InTheOven · 01/05/2009 09:56

Thanks all for your suggestions and comments. Casey and Madison are safely off the list ! We are trying to avoid the "girly girly" names as those sorts of names very "little girl" and my baby will have whatever name we choose as an adult too!

Until Blackadder/Mr Bean etc the only Rowans I knew were girls (now grown ups of my age). Even now I only actualy know 1 male Rowan (also adult) and no litle ones called Rowan of either sex.

Top 2 are Darcey and Rowan I think. DH can't get too excited about any name (he says!)

Natalia
Carlotta
Stephanie
Stefya
Clara
Sarah
Esther
Hester
Philippa
Louisa
Luisa
Laurel

Bethany
Beatrix
