I call my ds Bunny as a pet name - it's not short for anything, it just happened. I wouldn't use it outside our house though!

edam · 26/04/2009 00:50

Not sure but think it might well be Barbara. Or is that Bunty? You need to go and hunt out some girls' boarding school stories from the 50s...

nooka · 26/04/2009 00:52

I thought it was generally held to be short for Rabbit

However on research I see it is short for Berenice - not a name you see very often.

Rabbit

RubyBlueberry · 26/04/2009 00:55

Aren't blokes called Bunny too?

Or is that just if their surname is Warren? (there was one on Eldorado)

seeker · 26/04/2009 00:59

Raffles' sidekick was called Bunny

littleboyblue · 26/04/2009 02:47

I always thought Bunny was short for Elizabeth, you know one of those weird ones like Ted being short for Edward instead of a simple Nick short for Nicholas.

KatyMac · 26/04/2009 07:29

Bunneka - not sure where it's from tho'

2sugarsandapuppy · 26/04/2009 07:36

Isn't it short for anything if you're a female estate agent?

EldonAve · 26/04/2009 08:45

so if noone is sure what it's short for can you just go ahead and use it as a first name?

It's short for Edmund in the book 'The Secret History'. No idea what it's short for as a girl's name though.
