wondering for those who are called Juliette (Juliet) whether they definitely get abbreviated to Julie/Jules etc or do they stay as Juliette. Not so keen on shortening names.

Juliet is very nice, a little bit unusual but not difficult in any way. I expect you would get lots of positive comments. I have a long unusual name with a common shortening that I have never used (I do have a family shortening, but it's only for close family). So long as you are clear when she is little, and se is clear what she likes when she is bigger people usually use the name that you specify. My dad's ex-girlfriend (married to my mum's ex-boyfriend who is my godfather) is a Juliet and I have never heard her called anything else.

It's a lovely name, and a little unusual, so you won't have the worry of being Juliet-A or Juliet-B etc in school.
She may get a little frustrated that every boy she dates when older will have -o put on the end of his name a-la 'Romeo'......
but go for it!
