despite having a relatively lengthy list dp is not keen on most of them and some have even been crossed off

current list is something like this:

Richey
Beau
Nico
Lars
Robin
Levi

so any ideas of a similar ilk much appreciated. I'm going crazy now. poor third baby, we've used up all the good names already :D

Love Robin!!!

Riley,Rex,Sol

thumbwitch · 17/04/2009 21:51

Ugh to all of those except Robin which I love.

What names can't you use?

Freddie
Sven
Soren
Charlie
Elijah
George

janeite · 17/04/2009 21:55

Sorry but I only like Robin on your original list.

Laurence/Laurie is nice, instead of Lars (can't help thinking of 'Lars Porsena of Clusium, by the nine Gods he swore').

Benedict is lovely and you could maybe shorten it to Beau but it gives him more options later.

i don't like Robin or Lars. Not keen on Levi - the rest are all okay but it's personal preference, isn't it? None of them are awful

thisisyesterday · 18/04/2009 19:32

hmmm so Robin is a good one then? I do love it, and I don't know any boy Robins.

the Levi thing is cos I love Primo Levi

liking Benedict, Soren (had that on the list last time actually) and Elijah

It would bother me that Robyn is popular girls name these days, particularly in the States.

Richey would be cool short for Richard. Really unusual for that generation.

thisisyesterday · 18/04/2009 19:52

ahh the Robyn thing doesn't bother me, think the name has always been unisex, and we do know a couple of girl Robyns, but no boys.

DP isn't keen on Richey because he doesn't want a name that sounds like it has been shortened, but neither of us are keen on Richard.
I wonder if it could be short for anything else?

I know 2 male Robins and 1 female Robin (all spelled the same). AFAIK none of them were given any grief for having a unisex name. Robin can be a nn for Robert or a name in its own right.

Richie - no. Too much like Richie Cunningham from Happy Days (oops, age showing again) - you could have Ralph of Potsy instead? Or even Fonzie?
I can't think of another long form for Richie other than Richard - Richmal came to mind but that's a girl's name. I suppose there is Richmond but no.

i am quite liking Rowan too

I've got a Lewis and am having a Noah

thumbwitch · 18/04/2009 22:30

Noah is good, but is it a bit too "of the moment"?

will have to work on dp a bit more to get Richey truly into the running I fear.
although, like I said the other day, he can always change it when he's older if he hates it can't he?

"DP isn't keen on Richey because he doesn't want a name that sounds like it has been shortened, but neither of us are keen on Richard.

There's lots of German names ending in "rich" (though it is pronounced rick), eg. Ulrich, Heinrich, Dietrich, Friedrich, Alberich, ...

Otherwise Eric I guess.

thisisyesterday · 18/04/2009 22:44

alberich is very cool actually
and I do like Lucian but then i'll have the whole looshun/looseeun thing won't i??? lol

I like Rowan - dd2 would have been Rowan had she been a boy.

i am liking Robin a lot

BiscuitStuffer · 18/04/2009 23:02

Levi reminds me of a bouncer of a club
Beau to me is very girly
Nico is italian sounding
Richey is a bit boy next door with big curly hair

I'm crap at names but off the top of my head:
Amos
Sol
Kit
Jonnie

I know 2 male Robins, no girls. I do like it. Both have brothers - one is Fergus and the other Eric.
I'm not sure about Richey. I know 2 of them and both are very chavvy.

thisisyesterday · 18/04/2009 23:05

this is very true.

Oh, I have my girl list here too, I knew I had forgotten some off it the other day

Beatrice
Matilda
Mavis
Frances
Astrid
Primrose
Ramona
Zelda
Frieda

it is too long and needs narrowing down
