chequersmate · 05/04/2009 20:54

Thank you.

I had a conversation with someone, who's name is Ian, who says that his parents called him that as it was a one syllable name.

Sian is one, obviously, totally different pronunciation.

Sort of like Earn.

You know some people say e-ar and others say ear, like that.

I think Ian is 1 too!

SoMuchToBits · 05/04/2009 20:57

I thought you were going to say it was pronounced like "Yan" or "Jan" would be in many European languages.

chequersmate · 05/04/2009 20:58

Interesting.

Was a wacky conversation - was called Ian because surname is two syllables and so first name has to be one syllable.

Because two syllables first name followed by two syllable surname is wrong apparently

(would just like to point out I actually have two syllable first name and surname)
