So which do you prefer?
To match siblings Iris, Pearl, Amos and Eli.
I like one the best, and dh likes the other!

Jean love it

GinaFjord · 27/03/2009 20:53

Neither, they're both far too middle aged.

Sorry.

CherryChoc · 27/03/2009 20:53

I like Jean. Haven't a clue about matching though, sorry!

Eyeballsinthesky · 27/03/2009 20:53

Joan is lovely

PeppermintPatty · 27/03/2009 20:53

I prefer Jean. I LOVE Jeannie

GinaFjord · 27/03/2009 20:54

Jeannie is nicer.

The only other one I like from your list is Iris.

LittleMissBliss · 27/03/2009 20:54

Jeans my grans name and she's 70 odd. So an old ladies name to me.

I think Joan is a little boring bit of a Jane name, pleasant but not exciting.

dizzydixies · 27/03/2009 20:55

ginaFjord, it isn't a list to choose from, its the names of the siblings for wee Jean or Joan

BreevandercampLGJ · 27/03/2009 20:55

I know a Jean, she is 70

I know a Joan, she is 70 this summer.

I know a dead Joan, she would be 79 this year.

So neither in answer to your question.

Thunderduck · 27/03/2009 20:56

Neither. But if I absolutely had to choose then Joan is marginally better.

GinaFjord · 27/03/2009 20:56

Sorry.

Should have read the OP properly.

Apologies tummytickler.

LittleMissBliss · 27/03/2009 20:56

I can't imagine a baby with either name.

It's the same with Tilly i love that name but can't imagine a 40 year old woman called Tilly. It's such a lovely name but a childs name.

tummytickler · 27/03/2009 21:01

Dont worry GinaFjord !!!

Its tough, because we cant pick one and use the other for a dc6 or a middle name. Picking one will rule out the other for ever.
Wouldnt ask friends and (esp)family is one is the name of my grandmother so would be bias!

i know a little joan, known as joanie. at first we thought it was as in joni mitchell, but no, joan. grew on me very quickly, lovely little girl, which always helps

mileniwmffalcon · 27/03/2009 21:09

btw i think either would go beautifully with your other names.

LaDiDaDi · 27/03/2009 21:09

or neither ?

Actually I quite like Jean as a mn. Don't like Joan at all.

moondog · 27/03/2009 21:11

you wait they'll be the chloes and amelies in 10 years time.

tummytickler · 27/03/2009 21:26

Gosh do youreally think so???
I am not sure i want a Chloe or Amelie style hyper mega superduper popular name for a lo.

My MIL is Jean, so I find it too difficult to see past that.

I know someone who was christened Joan but she pronounces it as if it were spelled Joanne.

I think they may be due a revival sometime, possibly around the same time as Beryl and Gladys.

tummytickler · 27/03/2009 21:29

I quite like Beryl too actually. Hmmmmm. wonder what dh would say to Beryl?
