ARGH! Flaws with favourite names - is it a problem? HELP please!!!

TWO possible problems with my favorite names:

  1. One of my top two names for a DD is Anna Lucy (as recently posted in separate thread). BUT - of course just the initial is often used for the middle name: is Anna L. too close to 'anal'? Or am I over-thinking it?

REALLY woulldn't like to have to go with a different middle name - Lucy is one of my fave names but ruled out because it is my sister's name - without the Lucy DH and I would be less excited about Anna with a different middle name.

Also Anna L. C----ell: the two -ell sounds aren't great, but normally it's only written down that way not said out loud, so that shouldn't be a problem? Or is it not great?

  1. Fave boys name for last 2 years has been Aidan. When I was little I loved reversing names... and Aidan spelt backwards is Nadia. Is this a problem? Surely many Aidans get through life without being called Nadia? Maybe reversing names is just a girl thing to do? I don't like the spelling Aiden anywhere near as much but if needs must... what do you think? Mind you my nephew is Aaron and no-one so far has noted that it's (almost) Nora (ok it's Noraa) backwards)

Is my brain being overly active or should i be concerned?

Thanks for your help!!!

ooo you know I went to school with an Aidan - didn't realise until you posted that it was Nadia backwards

edam · 26/03/2009 09:50

You are over-thinking it!

TigerFeet · 26/03/2009 09:53

My cousin is called Aidan and I had no idea that when reversed it spelled Nadia!

I think Anna Lucy is a great name, I have a Lucy. If Anna L is a problem (and tbh it never occured to me that it would be either) then she could always omit the middle initial when writing her name. I hated my middle name as a child and would just pretend it didn't exist - not that I'm saying your dc will pretend that Lucy isn't her middle name but she need not use the initial all the time iyswim

To be honest, I think you might be overthinking it a bit

FAQinglovely · 26/03/2009 09:57

ooo you know I've just realised that my DS1's name spelled in reverse is the the surname of a famous Palestinian leader

devientenigma · 26/03/2009 11:30

My mam is VD Patterson, nee Bedding. LOL

  1. You're over thinking it
  2. FGS stop being silly

Avoid rhymes (personal experience) and initials that spell S.H.I.T. etc and yopu'll be fine.

Bella73 · 26/03/2009 11:57

at initials spelling S.H.I.T

I thought I was complicated about names, but I definitely do think you are overthinking. Your name choices are lovely and fine.

RachieB · 26/03/2009 12:19

def overthinking !

lastboxoftampons · 26/03/2009 12:27

Overthinking!

But for what it's worth, Anna spelled backwards is still Anna - so you're safe there!

Plonker · 26/03/2009 12:34

Definitely overthinking it!!

All lovely names btw

beaniepix · 26/03/2009 14:20

at Anna spelt backwards is Anna!!!

As if worrying about pregancy being ok wasn't enough, here I am getting my knickers in a twist over names!!! Think I need a virtual G&T and to CHILL OUT.

Thanks everyone for telling me to see sense - am much reassured!!! Have given myself a good slap and told self to snap out of being so silly!!!

You are over thinking it, but if you're still worried, maybe you could have a second middle name? My friend did that to use two names she really wanted without the initials spelling something very unfortunate. It was far, far more obviously an issue than your situation though. I doubt anyone would ever notice Anna L.

susiey · 26/03/2009 19:04

you are definitley over thinking
beside if it was shortened with an initial esp at school it would be Anna C

susiey · 26/03/2009 19:04

p.s lucy is another one of my fave names you have good taste

LoveBuckets · 26/03/2009 20:27
