... a few lovely classic names that it is very unlikely there'll be many of at the mother and toddler group.

Caroline, Nicola, Claire, Virginia, Dorothy.

Peter, Timothy, David, Andrew, Robert.

Not so sure about Virginia...

SalBySea · 23/03/2009 18:28

eugh - I like Peter and Andrew is OKAY but other than that you have listed most of my top 10 hated names there! (and I like classic names)

noddyholder · 23/03/2009 18:29

Dorothy is very 'in' round these parts

traceybath · 23/03/2009 18:30

definitely not virginia - poor virginia at school was plagued by 'virgin virgin i a'

Can't say i really love any of those names

minesacheeseandpicklesandwich · 23/03/2009 18:50

One of them's mine - thank-you!!

I love Caroline but wasn't allowed to use it for dd, so it's her middle name.

dragonbutter · 23/03/2009 18:53

yuck.

apart from robert and peter. they are nice names.

but yuck to the rest.

minesacheeseandpicklesandwich · 23/03/2009 19:03

I've been considering Dorothea...

traceybath · 23/03/2009 19:11

Thea is lovely . . . not quite so sure about dorothea though.

mrsgboring · 23/03/2009 19:14

I know three Peters, a Robert and a Timothy all under 3. They're on their way back.

Nicola and Claire seem fairly seventies to me, rather than completely classic.

GossipMonger · 23/03/2009 19:15

Cheeseandpickle - we have a Hungarian girl in our class called Dorotea and now that I am used to it I think it is soo pretty. Nicer than Dorothy and pronounced Dorro-tay-a
and she is such a lovely girl.

Like Caroline. Like Claire but not keen on the 'classic' boy names at all.

You dont hear of many

Nathan
Alastair
Dominic
Theo

Annabel
Emma
Alison
Joanna

all of which I think are a bit nicer than yours!!

beanieb · 23/03/2009 19:17

Caroline has bas associations for me so no way!

My aunt was a Dorothy!

what about Sarah, Ruth, Rachel, Jane and

Richard, matthew and mark?

AliGrylls · 23/03/2009 19:21

I like Alison probably because it is my name. Does anyone like George? It is a family name and has a bit of sentimental meaning for me but I don't think hubbie likes or mother-in-law. Although hubbie is happy because he knows how much it means to me I get the feeling he would rather I didn't. If there are any extensions / derivations of above name that anyone can think of I would be happy to consider.

traceybath · 23/03/2009 19:23

George is a lovely lovely name but is quite popular - not sure if thats an issue for you though.

SalBySea · 23/03/2009 19:24

I love George! would have been an option for our LO had it not been taken already by someone else in the family

LittleMissWorryHead · 23/03/2009 19:25

Claire is much better when spelt Clare

Babbity · 23/03/2009 19:28

I have a Dav id - he's the only one we know of under the age of thirty or so. He's known as Davy (after the Davy in the Anne of Green Gables books). And he's a cutie

Also Antonia, Mary, Anne, Susan(na). Our other DS is Joh n.

spongebrainbigpants · 23/03/2009 19:35

LittleMiss, you're absolutely right - Clare is of course the correct spelling!

Hate the name Timothy, conjures up images of Nice but Dim!

minesacheeseandpicklesandwich · 23/03/2009 19:48

GossipMonger, like the sound of that, but DP won't have anything remotely foreign - suggested Morgan to him today only to be told 'it's Welsh'!

seeker · 23/03/2009 20:16

Sorry - of course Clare - don't know where the errant i came from!

LOTS of Georges down our way!

I love Caroline, but I have two much married brothers so a lot of names were out of bounds as belonging to ex SILs!

Minesacheese - I can't imagine anyone actually HATING any of those names - tell is which, go on, you know you want to!

My name and my brother's are in that list!

RachieB · 24/03/2009 11:39

i dont like any of those ( well not as my future childrens names anyway ! lol)

Gossipmonger Theo is becoming very popular,( i love this name too)
and Emma like Rachel,Catherine,Kate etc
never really "went out of fashion" ( i know quite a few little girls called emma)

It does make me laugh when i hear / see a litle one called Rachel though, as i think of it a "my generation" name ( i am 30)

AliGrylls · 24/03/2009 12:12

thank you everyone that likes George. I might just do it now. Don't care if it is popular. LM (my code for lovely man) reassured me he liked George last night. He is soooo nice.
