Is Angelo too pretentious/feminine a name for a UK baby boy of non-Italian descent?

You can't do that to him. No really you can't. He will be called Angela all his life long and the therapy will be very expensive.

madlentileater · 14/03/2009 22:49

I am now singing "running away together" - sorry, tis not my cup of tea.

janeite · 14/03/2009 23:06

BUT I totally defend your right to call our child whatever you want to call him; if you love it, go with it. But if you posted because you had doubts, then maybe don't - tis up to you!

Mumcentreplus · 14/03/2009 23:10

How about Angelus...it's actually Latin medieval combo...but it lends itself to a middle name...

edam · 14/03/2009 23:12

If you really want to confuse the poor child, why not go for Agnelo? ('tis a real name)

Mumcentreplus · 14/03/2009 23:14

but it's up to you hun...

Angelina ballerina

pointydog · 15/03/2009 11:01

yes

violethill · 15/03/2009 11:13

Yes. Why have an Italian name for someone who isn't Italian or has Italian parents? Bit odd.

Lonnie · 15/03/2009 11:34

I dont think you will have any issues with Angelo for a boy as we now live in such a multi cultural world that anyone that comes accross him will know that it is a boy. I know a Mario whom hasnt got Italian roots his parents simply liked the name..

My dd3 has a Irish name (Aoife) no Irish roots for dh or I we simply liked the name.. I still like it I think it is a beautiful name and it suits her.. I couldnt care less of some stranger feels that we shouldnt have given her a Irish name.. generally we get very possitive reactions once people find out how to pronounce it.. In fact I have had one of the mothers in the preschool she went to come and ask me if I would mind if they used it as she had just fallen in love with the name..

Really if you like it use it.. Plenty of the names we view utterly normal and English are not of English descent anyway (think of Anne, Margaret, Elizabeth, Harry, Henry, William) - that got a bit royal but they are all names we view utterly English yet they are Greek and German of decent

Wolfblass · 15/03/2009 11:45

Does everybody choose a name for their child from the nation of which there parents are descendants?

Personally i do not see why it is such an issue.

I for years vetoed Gabriel - dp's first choice for a son.

I am due today and Gabriel is top of the list (we have a few fall backs but i doubt we will use them).

People have warned me he'll be called Gay boy or Gabrielle but i'm sure children are bullied for many, many things.

If you love it go for it.

Dp knows an Angelo - big strapping rugby type, very manly and i must say bloody gorgeous with it!
