Beatrice or Beatrix?

I quite like both these names for a girl....but which is better? And what can they be shortened to...I am not keen on Trixy as a nn.

Or any other sugestions of similar names? Also like Clementine, Florence, Evelyn, Esme.

So hard this name business!

Beatrice. I think Beatrix has quite a harsh sound (and I'm biased )

nn Bea (obvious one), but not keen.

At a push Betty or Bertie for the tomboys. But they are a bit convoluted.

Beatrice, much nicer.

And Bea or Beattie

A vote for Beatrix here. Maybe because of the Victorian, creative, arty Potter thoughts it conjures up for me, if that makes sense! For similar names, maybe Cecily? Martha?

i really dislike them both and can't understand how they have made a comeback.

sorry, i know that's unhelpful

twosofar · 19/03/2009 18:35

Beatrix all the way...much more unusual. Love Clementine Florence and Esme. Hate Evelyn, Evie or any of those.
How about Theodora, Dorothea, Cora, Flora?

traceybath · 19/03/2009 18:39

beatrice! just found dc3 is a girl at 20 wk scan and we're going for beatrice too. . .

lovely lovely name and think bea is very sweet as a nn

twosofar · 20/03/2009 13:04

How about Bebe as a nickname (as in BB)?

onelittletreasure · 21/03/2009 06:11

Beatrice I wanted for our little girl, but hubby veotoed it. Love it, love it, love it!! Can be shortened to Trixie, which is fab, I think!

PS I think Clemency is horrible, sorry.xx

Cor blimey nappyaddict, that's a lot of names you like!!!

We have a Betrys which is the welsh version of Beatrice and love the name. Shortens to Bee.

notagrannyyet · 21/03/2009 07:06

Beatrice, Florence, Alice, & Elizabeth were my DC grt grandmas' names. I'm into family history at the moment!

If I had had more DDs I would have chosen from these.

buzzybee · 21/03/2009 07:24

I have a 15 mo Beatrix and we call her Bea or Bebe. She's adorable and so is her name! My other (7 yo) DD is Isobel (Izzy) BTW.

bettany · 21/03/2009 07:26

Beatrix sounds like a baddie from a Harry Potter book.

PheasantPlucker · 21/03/2009 07:33

Seeker - we know a Clemency! She is about 10 now.
