Bruno or Isaac?

Need help for a boys name. Love the classics but for one reason or another most are not ideal (too popular, family members already using them, or sound ridiculous with surname). - ie Harry, William, Oliver, Hugo, James, George.

We also like Bruno but doesn't it sound Italian? Also worried about the Sacha Baron Cohen film coming out!

The other one I was thinking about was Isaac. What do people think when they hear this name? Very religious? I have also read on other posts that it is becoming very popular but I have not really heard it around much and it is not in the top 10 (or even tope 20 I don't think). And our surname begins with A - will it be too much of a mouthful? Oliver A in the opinion of some people is hard to say ...

LOVE Isaac ( Zac)
Bruno is def a dogs name lol

Strawbezza · 06/03/2009 17:26

As long as your surname isn't Hunt, Isaac's fine.

Bruno = dog or Frank Bruno.

Jojay · 06/03/2009 17:31

Love Bruno.

Not good for a blonde though, IMHO

charlie1000 · 06/03/2009 17:49

Love Isaac and def don't think it's too 'out there'. Isaac George has got a lovely ring to it and I would say it's much more jacob than abraham. Bruno is nice but more daring imo

atowncalledalice · 06/03/2009 17:57

I like both, but prefer Bruno - I also used to know a lovely French one!

Sycamoretree · 06/03/2009 18:08

I would be wary of Bruno given up and coming Sacha Baron Cohen movie...

But it is a nice name.

pointydog · 06/03/2009 18:10

oo Funkyzeit mit Bruno

strictmumof3 · 06/03/2009 18:38

I think people were more surprised at Isaac because according to them 'it didn't go with our other 2 kids names', I don't care what people think. We liked it and that is all that matters.

Plus Isaac isn't so surprising anymore, it was no. 52 in baby names 2008.

Don't give people a chance to have an opinion because they will!

Meglet · 06/03/2009 18:40

Bruno Bruno Bruno Bruno!!!!! I was going to call our second DC that, but we had a girl. Isaac is lovely but pretty common now, I know 4, and I don't even know that many children.

frazzledoldbag · 06/03/2009 19:51

Bruno is much better and more unusual too. I know loads of Isaacs [snore]. The only Bruno I know is my daughters hamster (named after Bruno Tonioli on Strictly). However, I must admit that I'm now gutted she called the hamster that as I'd quite like to use it for my next child...............

nowwearefour · 06/03/2009 19:55

isaac is one of the nicest boys names there is imho. i love it.

LiffeyAndFriends · 06/03/2009 20:33

Bruno, I love that name.

RunningGirl · 06/03/2009 23:00

Isaac is definitely becoming more popular but still not that many around. I think it is the most gorgeous boys name ever.
Bruno is kind of cool but you'd need to be pretty confident to carry it off.
Isaac has my vote!

Dadevon · 06/03/2009 23:01

Bruno best name

MadaMoo · 10/03/2009 00:13

Isaac with Joseph

Merrylegs · 10/03/2009 10:23

My DS is Isaac. He is a very lovely boy. He is the only one in his school of 600 kids.

V cool name. Prefab Sprout even wrote a song about it - 'Little Green Isaac' -

''Isaac's a soft name/ It sounds like a pocketful of rain...'

brimfull · 10/03/2009 10:25

Isaac- I adore this name, wish I had thought of it for ds...damn!

ipanemagirl · 10/03/2009 10:40

Isaac has become in last ten years much more popular, you hear it a lot in London now. There are 2 in ds's school.

Bruno, ime is very rare.

Danger is the Sacha Baron Cohen movie might make give it strong camp/German/fashionista overtones, not that that should matter but we're all sensitive about our baby's names! A

BonsoirAnna · 10/03/2009 10:42

Bruno is Italian or French. I like it. Doesn't Nigella have a Bruno?

madrush · 10/03/2009 10:44

Another vote for Isaac, it's my favourite boys name (2 dd's so no opportunity to use it!).

lastboxoftampons · 10/03/2009 17:24

Definitely Isaac!
Bruno sounds like it should be short for or a nickname for a different name - In the Spike category for me, although maybe it's the dog connotations.

Although now that I think of it, I'm starting to hear "Mr I-zak" a la Hiro in Heroes in my head Sorry, I'm no help!

LavenderStar · 11/03/2009 12:41

Ha! I watch Heroes too! Hawoah Mr I-zak Mendez.
