We are expecting our first on June 2nd and really like Imogen Grace. We have had good feedback about the name, but my nan hates it and insists on calling her Grace instead. What do you think of Imogen?

lovely names.

(to those who would put Grace 1st, it's a hard name to wear if, like me you are the child whose dancing teacher sucked her teeth on 1st meeting and said "Bit heavy-footed. I'll put her down for tap." )

mrsruffallo · 04/03/2009 21:35

I prefer Grace.
Imogen all the people..

Spidermama · 04/03/2009 21:36

The only Imogen I know gets called Immy. I would avoid telling Grans or indeed anyone else until you've made your choice and named the child. It's so difficult when people stick in their two penneth.

blametheparents · 04/03/2009 21:38

I love Imogen.

Dh vetoed it for our DD though

MrsMattie · 04/03/2009 21:39

Fabulous, elegant name. Well done.

mrsruffallo · 04/03/2009 21:49

Are you an Imogen, MrsMattie?

MrsMattie · 05/03/2009 08:15

No! My name is one of those Irish names that you look at and think 'What the hell does that say?'

LiffeyBag · 05/03/2009 10:16

Saedhbh?

ADealingMummy · 05/03/2009 19:39

it's lovely

deste · 05/03/2009 20:33

Love it.

motherof2boys · 05/03/2009 20:50

Call your baby what YOU like! Next time keep your names to yourself and say here's 'xxx!'

  • putting Gran's name or variant thereof as third name is good idea if that won't then cause some polictical storm elsewhere in the family
sweetkitty · 05/03/2009 20:57

It's lovely

You should NEVER discuss baby names with friends and family before baby is born, someone will always try and put you off a name

piscesmoon · 05/03/2009 21:08

I think it is lovely-I agree that you shouldn't tell people first. We just announced it after they were born. Your nan will come around-she will seem very silly with the wrong name, especially when your DD looks confused and tells her that she is Imogen.

joey99 · 05/03/2009 21:21

I'm biased with dd Imogen Esme - love Grace but like Sassy said i thought Grace would be a difficult name to live up to if she took after her mother!!

dizzydixies · 05/03/2009 21:21

lovely

LuciaRose · 06/03/2009 11:16

I love Imogen, with Immie as the nickname. I think Imogen has a very 'good quality' feel about it and it is a beautiful-sounding word.

I'm not so keen on Grace and it is very popular as a middle name. However, I wouldn't let popularity put me off using Rose, which is probably more common. I just find Grace to be a harsh-sounding word, but it does conjure up images of gracefulness - it is just personal taste.

rabuxton · 06/03/2009 13:21

I agree it is quite a popular name at the mo. Grace more so than Imogen, lovely combination though.
I am having trouble matching up good sounding 1st and middle names.

Knax · 08/03/2009 10:05

love it - if we'd had a DD would be imogen, and Immi for short

belgo · 08/03/2009 10:13

Lovely name. Ignore your nan.

LuLuBai · 08/03/2009 10:33

Joey99 - Imogen Esme is lovely!

LoveBuckets · 09/03/2009 20:02

Aren't they both in the top 10? Should be proof of general opinion.

MadaMoo · 09/03/2009 23:21

It's a goodie.

hayzbetts · 11/03/2009 09:17

Thanks to everyone for their lovely comments. I am having the 3rd name after my great nan because she was my world and she is my angel, so I want to honour her by using her name too. I still love Imogen and call her Immy everyday when I chat to her so I am determined to keep it. But thanks again for all your lovely comments x

Imogen is lovely.

silverfrog · 11/03/2009 09:23

I am totally biased, as they are dd1's names , but imo they are lovely.

Once dh & I had settled on them, that was it, no more discussions. dd2, on the other hand, was a little more troublesome, and was just "baby" for a week or so
