Fern. If you ask people to spell the name, most will say F E R N. Go for the easiest option.

MumGoneCrazy · 03/03/2009 22:13

i like ferne it sounds/looks softer
its a lovely name

PortBlacksandResident · 03/03/2009 22:14

Well i like Fern because of it's nature connotations. Also, it was the first spelling you posted iyswim. Also nice with an A in but not keen on the middle one.

MrsMattie · 03/03/2009 22:14

I think Fern is the prettiest.

snickersnack · 03/03/2009 22:15

Fearne. I think.

SlartyBartFast · 03/03/2009 22:16

i go with fearn

fern is a plant isnt it?

fridayschild · 03/03/2009 22:17

Fern

Lovely name, a little bit unusual, so go for the obvious spelling

simpson · 03/03/2009 22:17

Deffo like Fern the best

Keep it simple!!

SlartyBartFast · 03/03/2009 22:17

or rather fearne - for the name.

lotspot · 03/03/2009 22:22

my immidiate reaction was it should be spelt fearne.....but looking at it written down i like fern so much more

Pinkbump3 · 03/03/2009 22:42

We where thinking the most obvious spelling which is Fern as well our other daughter is a plant name also but we spelt it a little different and she always gets the plant spelling!

We are really happy with the name out of all my family and friends with kids at various schools not one knows a Fern which is a bonus as both my dds names a getting really popular now!

I prefer Fearne

nappyaddict · 13/03/2009 14:00

Fern is the proper spelling.

Ivykaty44 · 13/03/2009 14:02

Wait and see how the majority of people spell the name in the new baby cards and then you will have a good gauge on how people will tend to spell it.

That way your daughter will not get all pricky with everyone always spelling it wrong, as most will not.

Knax · 13/03/2009 23:30

go for simplest, fern

nooka · 14/03/2009 06:01

Ferne is the most correct as it is the original Old English. That said I think they are all fine. I think I would probably write Fern if I wasn't sure (for birthday cards etc).

Littlefish · 14/03/2009 07:43

Fern

EyeballsintheSky · 14/03/2009 07:48

Fern. Can't see any need to complicate it just for the heck of it. Lovely name btw

nappyaddict · 14/03/2009 11:06

Fern or Ferne

dragonbutter · 14/03/2009 11:07

good name however you spell it.
one of my favourites.

ChippyMinton · 14/03/2009 11:18

Fern Britton
Fearne Cotton

both look pretty, but I think majority would go with the Fern Britton spelling as she is the best known.

bananagal · 14/03/2009 12:19

Much prefer Fern myself

Wolfblass · 14/03/2009 14:59

Majority would spell it Fern and i think i prefer that spelling anyhow.

However it does depend if you don't mind correcting people all the time go for Fearne if you like it.

EdwardBear · 14/03/2009 15:02

I think Fearne is marginally nicer, but Fern will be better for getting the correct spelling and easier for your DD at school!
