Suggestions for middle names for twin boys needed

Mum2BeOfTwins0309 · 27/02/2009 00:38

Hi All,

I'm new to Mumsnet, although I've been a visitor to the discussions section since I found out I was pregnant

I am currently 35weeks pregnant with twin, unidentical boys and my partner & I have finally (I think) decided on the biblical names Shiloh (pronounced Shy-lo) and Makai (pronounced Mac-kye).
I'm a big fan of bible names!

We are struggling to come up with nice middle names for the 2 boys- its taken us THIS long to come up with 1st names- that work with their double-barreled surname 'Charles-Bowen'

Does anyone have any suggestions for good middle names at all?

¤ (No critiques of chosen 1st names please!)¤

Thanks in advance x

Shiloh Jacob ?
Makai Reuben ?

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Hope you find some names you like.

Hmm, difficult one. I think this needs to be answered by MNers that are up on biblical names. I think they should have very short biblical middle names.
Good luck!!

Mum2BeOfTwins0309 · 27/02/2009 01:10

Thank you both for the suggestions

MintChoc- I do like the names Jacob & Reuben

If anyone (those already posted or anyone new) has suggestions for non-Biblical middle names that suit their 1st & surnames- not overly obsessed with them having Biblical middle names too- that'd be really helpful!

Thanks again!

Hmm that's quite a tricky surname. I tried some traditional boys names, but with the Charles they didn't look right at all. Do you have a Welsh connection with the Bowen? What about something like?

Shiloh Bran (with a long a) Charles-Bowen
Makai David Charles-Bowen

TheLadyEvenstar · 27/02/2009 05:36

Shiloh Matthew Charles-Bowen

Makai Joshua Charles-Bowen

I like to use family names for middle names. Grandparents names can be good or failing that have a look at your family trees and maybe something you like will pop out at you.
Congrats on the twins.

HeyMa · 27/02/2009 14:04

i love your biblical names, my DSs are reuben nicol and jacob patrick - well done mintchoc for suggesting those their middle names reflect grandparents names, 1 from each side so like frazzled i'd say to have a look at some of your family names and see if they fit...or keeping the biblical theme:

Shiloh Mark
Makai Luke

Bubbaluv · 27/02/2009 14:05

Adam for whichever is born first?

duchesse · 27/02/2009 14:15

Cain and Abel?

duchesse · 27/02/2009 14:15

maybe not...

Mum2BeOfTwins0309 · 27/02/2009 14:21

Thanks for all the new suggestions.
Ideally I'd use the names of our fathers as middle names (esp as my dad passed away 10 years ago) but our dads have the same name! Big coincidence

I like the name Reuben - love it- but I have a nephew with that middle name & I often call him that instead of his actual 1st name!

My partner veto'd the names Moses, Joshua and Noah as 1st names- think they're too much for to use?
I.E. Shiloh Moses/Joshua... Makai Noah/Joshua

congrats with the twins -life will never be quite the same again (mostly in a good way )

With more unusual names as first names it might be good to give them a more conventional name as a middle name - it gives them another option if they don't like their first name when they get older.

So how about James, Luke, Adam, Mark, Matthew - or the like - all biblical but more traditional.

Mum2BeOfTwins0309 · 27/02/2009 14:31

Lol @ duchesse

I'd be tainting 1 of their lives forever! 1 bad, 1 evil child..

My parter has veto'd the name Cain

Joshua is a favourite name of mine.

Wolfblass · 27/02/2009 16:05

I was going to suggest just what MintChoc has....

fruitshootandasausageroll · 27/02/2009 17:33

How about short names like Luke Alex Max Fin Mark Paul Adam David John

Wigglesworth · 27/02/2009 17:50

Adrian, Mark, Noah, Issac.

nooka · 28/02/2009 02:13

I don't know that it is a terribly bad thing to have the same middle name. My aunts all have Mary as a middle name (my grandmother was a convert to Catholicism ) it didn't seem to be a problem to them. I understand that with twins you might feel sensitive about it, but with two grandfathers to be named after and with such unusual first names I don't think it would be a problem.

Mum2BeOfTwins0309 · 28/02/2009 07:19

Thanks to all for the additional suggestions and congrats.
I'll have yet another brainstorming sesh with DP &will let you know what we come up with.
Its such a big task deciding names for your DC, eh?
I guess them both having the same middle name isn't so bad (just have to sell the benefits to DP)- not sure that Everton (our fathers' names) has the nicest ring to it...
I.E. Shiloh Everton... & Makai Everton...
What do u think? No offence taken

Using old family names seems good to me, but is there another name you can take from the other side of/ someone else in the family? They may actually enjoy the differences between them in later life.

cremeeggs · 28/02/2009 09:54

Levi
Elijah
Solomon
Reuben
Benjamin
Nathaniel
Daniel
Adam
saul
Gideon
Jeremiah(!)
Gabriel
Moses
Noah
Ephrahim

Springhassprung · 28/02/2009 10:45

Sounds a bit football fan ish to me

Could you take elements of the name to make two new ones, The E for one child and the T for another?

Edward and Tristan
Elvis and Tony
etc

anniebunny · 02/03/2009 14:29

Hi- my twin boys middle names are John (after one of the grandfathers) and Ethan if that is any help! They both have biblical first names.

Can I ask how you know that they are non identical? I wonder because I was told by several midwives that mine were DZ 'because they have separate placentas' and I didn't find out until they were several months old that a third of MZ twins have separate placentas (depends at what point it splits). It took me until they were four to get around to getting the dna test done and they are in fact MZ (identical). I also know four other sets of MZ twins who had separate placentas and a set of IVF MZ twins (embryo split after being put back!) and all the mothers had huge amounts of stress until they finally found out how much ignorance there is in the medical community about twin zygosity!!

MumOfBaby · 02/03/2009 16:27

LOVE LOVE LOVE Makai. Good choice!!!

Makai Nathaniel?

Although, if you're going to give your kids middle names, I'd use ones that mean something like your dad's name or his dad's name or the twin's dad's name.

I certainly wouldn't give them the same middle name. I don't think they'd appreciate it.
