What do you think of Genevieve Laura? How popular are Laura and Genevieve? Would Laura Genevieve sound better?

Other names I love are Lucinda, Henrietta, Antonia, Arabella, Rose,Charlotte, Clementine - they do all seem quite frilly and I wondered if Genevieve Laura is smarter, but also still feminine.

I love Genevieve, pronounced the English way. I also know an adult Genevieve who has always been Genevieve, not Gen/Genny. Evie is a lovely nn too.

I have a Genevieve and DH told everyone it was Guinevere for ages. I am sure he still has colleagues who think that we are medieval re-enacters or something!

Lovely names....Laura is beautiful and classic without being self consciously so.

I like Laura (I am V V V biased though ).

I think they're both lovely names, although I WISH we could get away with the French pronunciation. I also know a Genevieve who gets a mix of her full name and Gen. I'd never introduce her as Gen though, it's just an affectionate shortening for friends.

There's a 5 year old Laura in DS's class - we're convinced she's going to be Prime Minister one day, but that's another story

I have a Genevieve - she is Gigi for short (pronounced zhee-zhee). "Gigi" is one of my favourite films. She loves her name (so far), and so do we! I have a sister called Laura, so really like that too. I hear it quoted a lot as a name that can't be shortened, but in the family we have always called her Florrie or Flo, and her nieces and nephews call her Auntie Lor-Lor.

Genevieve is lovely: Gigi, Genny, Ginny, Evie, or a simple Vee......lots of shortenings, you can use one, her friends can use another.

I've got a Laura, a Laura Mary Rosenwyn, to be total It's done her proud - you can be anything with that name, it carries no baggage and nobody messes with it nicknamewise (oh, lie, dh calls her Lolly). (You do, oddly to my mind, have to be prepared for people to think she's called Lauren - maybe because they can't believe someone has such a Nice Simple Name so they have to inflate it a bit?)

I thought about Genevieve, but not keen on Genny, so was going to call her Vivi. I have a stunning friend called Vivi, so that has probably coloured it a bit for me.

Hasn't there been a thread like this before?

Laura as first name, deff. Doesn't date. It's lovely.
