Ariadne

Hi there. I'm due quite soon with DD2 and am considering Ariadne which is a name I really love.
We are not Greek but I love classical Greek names. DD1 is Iris.
Is Ariadne too much and too long compared with Iris amd generally too much of a tongue twister??
Surname is also 3 syllables.
What do you think?

Ariadne is a very pretty name, love it!

Cies · 20/02/2009 13:52

Very nice name.

PuppyMonkey · 20/02/2009 13:56

Sorry, I seem to be the only one but I find it very poncey...

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 20/02/2009 14:14

Puppy - you are not the only one, I would not say 'poncey' but I just don't like it.

It sounds like 'Harry Had a Knee'

ruty · 20/02/2009 14:17

i like it and i have a friend called Ariadne [she is half Greek tho]. Prepare for her to be called Ari though..

ruty · 20/02/2009 14:17

i mean be prepared - gah.

Breizhette · 20/02/2009 14:19

Very pretty name.

MrsBadger · 20/02/2009 14:22

I was at school with one

Always known as Ari

it is sightly poncey but no worse than other names of its ilk (Penelope, Hermione, Iolanthe)

Phoebe is lovely though. Chloë? Zoë?

Rosie29 · 20/02/2009 14:40

i have an Ariadne!
But my dh is greek and we live in greece, not sure if that makes a difference or not. it is a beautiful name, i love it!
go for it!

Rosie29 · 20/02/2009 14:42

I love Ariadne (was a short listed name for DD) but we're Cypriot, so doesn't seem odd to us DD ended up being Lydia Athene.

psml

Why rockets for gods sake??

TsarChasm · 20/02/2009 15:11

Hm I can see why you like it; quite unusual.

It's one of those names which (to me) sounds like it's being said backwards though. I always think that about Phoebe too. Just ignore me

hobbgoblin · 20/02/2009 15:13

I love it and 'Iris and Ariadne' sounds lovely together.

BlueChampagne · 20/02/2009 22:48

Ariane was the rocket.

Continuing the Greek theme, how about Thea or Zoe?

BlueChampagne · 20/02/2009 23:01

Olympia
Europa
Cleopatra
Doris
Daphne
Athene/a

tiggerlovestobounce · 20/02/2009 23:05

I think it is a lovely name.

I really like Ariadne. Sounds lovely with Iris too. Nice and unusual without being . Fab name choice IMO.

MerryMarigold · 07/03/2009 22:37

I don't like it, but it's a personal thing. I like Iris. I like Sophia.
