middle names to go with Miranda

Any suggestions? We liked Miranda Alice, but thought it would be too many 'a' sounds. Also Miranda Kate, but dd2 has Catherine as a middle name which Kate is the shortening for, so that's out.

Also ideas for boys names welcome too. We like very classic, traditional names. We like Alexander and Sebastian at the mo.

Thanks.

Opinions on our name choices welcome too, we are very open to suggestions and would be interested to gauge the general consensus.

I like the name Miranda.
Middle names - Charlotte - depends how long your surname is though.

Jane
Claire
Mae

all one syllable.

DollyMessiter · 18/02/2009 17:34

You're welcome.

janeite · 18/02/2009 17:34

Lovely name: we pondered long and hard on it for dd1 but decided it didn't go with dp's surname.

She would have been either Miranda Alice or Miranda Claire.

Sebastian is great - but I don't like any of the typical shortenings of it. My favourite boys' names at the mo are Bartholomew, Gabriel and Benedict but I also like Rowan and Laurence.

pigletpants · 18/02/2009 17:35

Sorry, that was for the 'Veranda' suggestion, we must have crossed post.

I like your other suggestions.

Miranda Beatrice

pigletpants · 18/02/2009 17:36

We have a three syllable surname, so would prefer a short middle name.

Not keen on Miranda at all. Sounds a bit pompous in a 1980s way. A female tim nice but dim. I don't dislike all names that end in 'da' although they're not commonly picked right now. Personally, I love the name Zelda. Dislike Sandra, Brenda, Glenda, and Miranda just sounds like a try-hard version of one of those. Only Zelda has any glamour!

I prefer Maribel or Mirabelle and although I don't like Melinda, I do like Belinda.

Classic but underused boys names I like are Marcus, Dominic, Greg(ory), Guy, Thaddeus, Patrick, Leo, Peter, Saul, Richie, Gideon. Sebastian is a bit long imo. Seb isn't a natural shortening, like Ben or Sam. Bash for short is nice on a young boy.

I thought of 'Claire' but worried it might be too 70s? I do like it though.

Beatrice is lovely.

Miranda Louise

Miranda Jayne

Miranda Lucy

Miranda Poppy

Miranda Daisy

Peter

George

Peter is lovely. Dh suggested that actually, so I know he likes it.

Hope

Beatrice is beautiful. I love names like Beatrice, Juliet etc, even though they are quite stylish now, they will never date terribly. There will always be a handful of any age scattered out there.

janeite · 18/02/2009 17:40

Miranda Beatrice is a bit of a mouthful though methinks, especially with a long surname.

Don't like Zelda at all I'm afraid: it sounds "hard".

Miranda Faith
Miranda Eve
Miranda Ruth

janeite · 18/02/2009 17:41

Hope = lovely

Timeisablindguide · 18/02/2009 17:42

I like Miranda Ruth!

What about Naomi instead of Miranda?

janeite · 18/02/2009 17:43

I have a Naomi instead of a Miranda!

SalmonFromTheLiffey · 18/02/2009 17:44

ps, oh another boys name I love is Julius.

pigletpants · 18/02/2009 17:49

I like Juliet. Other girls' names I'm considering are Clara and Poppy.

OP posts:
Timeisablindguide · 18/02/2009 17:51

There are a lot of girls named Poppy around - it's a nice name but quite popular.
Clara Miranda is quite nice or Beatrice Clara maybe...depends on your surname really.
I don't envy you - dh and I found it really hard to think of girls' names (we have a tricky surname too) but ended up with 2 sons anyway!

Heated · 18/02/2009 17:54

There's already been some great suggestions, just adding:
Miranda Grace
Miranda Pearl
Miranda Rose
Miranda Joy
Miranda Blythe
Miranda Clea

TsarChasm · 18/02/2009 18:04

I think it's pretty Sounds like it needs a one syllable middle name withit.

Faye maybe?

sleepyhead3 · 18/02/2009 18:05

Miranda is lovely, classic name. Also like Juliet and Clara. Poppy is really sweet but may date a little more as v popular at present.
I like Miranda Clare, Miranda Rose, Miranda Beatrice and Miranda Ruth especially.
