We don't know what we're having yet but really don't love any girls names.

We both liked Morgan. Dh still really wants it but i've gone off it. Was never really sure about it anyway because of the unisex thing

Already have a ds called Lewis. Have a long surname, 3 syllables, beginning with C.

Help me at least make a list. Not that dh will probably like anything that i like

Phoenix - we are in a similar position. I am rooting for Clementine, DH not sure. We like Beatrice, but our DS already has the nickname 'Bee', so its a no go. Nothing from the list leaps out at me either.

I think what you need to do (me too!) is write down, say 10 that you like, even if you don't love them, and read it over for a few days, see if any of the grow on you. Particularly write down any you saw and thought "I hadn't thought of that one before" and don't dislike.

Shirley
Sheila
Debra
Donna

From your list I like Eden, Amelia (but not Mia), Imogen, Alanna, Isla, Thea. The others are a bit too popular for me.

I love Ilya and Elia, but they are too close to my DS's name. Do you like those? A bit like Isla...

Astrophe · 18/02/2009 12:13

If you like Cordelia, you could have 'Dilly' instead of Tilly. Cute.

helsbels4 · 18/02/2009 12:20

I love Eden but there again, I'm biased because that's my dd's name It was really unusual when we named dd (nearly 4yrs ago) but there was a baby competition in our town a while ago and I saw there were three other Eden's!!! I don't want it to become too common

BlueChampagne · 18/02/2009 13:30

When are you due? Is there any hurry or have you time to take a break? Is this your first? We had a girl's name sussed by 26 weeks but hadn't settled on a boy's name till 39 weeks. DH didn't seem as interested as me! We entertained ourselves by also compiling a list of totally unsuitable names

mum2amoret · 18/02/2009 13:46

My DD2 is called AMORET. I've not met anyone with that name yet (I've seen one article in a magazine written by an Amoret but nothing else). It is the name of faerie queen in old english literature by Edmund Spenser C15th. Amoret, in Spenser's Faerie Queene, III. vi, xii and IV. vii, twin sister of Belphoebe. She is ?Of grace and beautie noble Paragone?, and has been married to Sir Scudamour,

Mark Akenside. 1721?1770

  1. Amoret

IF rightly tuneful bards decide,
If it be fix'd in Love's decrees,
That Beauty ought not to be tried
But by its native power to please,
Then tell me, youths and lovers, tell? 5
What fair can Amoret excel?

Behold that bright unsullied smile,
And wisdom speaking in her mien:
Yet?she so artless all the while,
So little studious to be seen? 10
We naught but instant gladness know,
Nor think to whom the gift we owe.

But neither music, nor the powers
Of youth and mirth and frolic cheer,
Add half the sunshine to the hours, 15
Or make life's prospect half so clear,
As memory brings it to the eye
From scenes where Amoret was by.

This, sure, is Beauty's happiest part;
This gives the most unbounded sway; 20
This shall enchant the subject heart
When rose and lily fade away;
And she be still, in spite of Time,
Sweet Amoret in all her prime.
