Boys names - what do you think of these?

We have a girls name we both like but really struggling with boys names. So the short list is:
Joe - dh and both love it but have a friend we see very regularly with a ds called Joe. She said she wouldn't mind us calling future ds this but I don't feel quite comfortable doing this (altho dh says I'm being stupid)
Sidney/ Sid
Ted - but I don't like the long versions (Edward etc)
Daniel - both quite like feels a bit dull maybe
Noah - I love, dh less keen.

Any opinions welcome on any of that. dd is called Ella.

The ones I really like are Daniel and Joe/Joseph- I really love those name. Joseph has been in and out of the Top 10 most popular names for donkeys years. Please don't worry about it not being 'original'. It's popular for a reason.

Noah is so played out.

Ted / Sid are those old fashioned-fashionable-again names to me. They won't be 'in vogue' in years to come.

Daniel is classic.

Ok, I like Joe though prefer Joseph, I quite like Ted but again prefer Edward. Daniel is a nice name but as you say it isnt very exciting so maybe keep it for a middle name. Noah ... I think I am starting to like this name - the jury was out for a while but it is growing on me. They are all nice names! Joseph Daniel ...

I like Joe and Noah. Daniel is OK.

Sunflower100 · 13/02/2009 21:22

We'd probably call a ds Joseph and shorten to Joe. We both love it but what do you think about such a close friend's ds being called Joe? She's Ok (very chilled out, lovely friend) but I guess Im worried what others who know us both will think? Is that just really wimpy.

Joseph is a lovely name in my very humble opinion. I also like Daniel but it will be shortened to Dan which I'm less keen on. Agree with MrsMattie on Ted/Sid. Didn't Chris Martin call his son Noah?...

hester · 13/02/2009 21:23

I love Joe, Noah and Daniel.

Joe was my first choice for a boy's name.

seeker · 13/02/2009 21:26

Edward's fab becasue it has so many great shortenings - including Ted!

noonki · 13/02/2009 21:27

I love Joseph/joe

Daniel OK - quite like Dan and Danny

Sid/ted - I do like but feel they will quickly become dated.

Noah is horrible (sorry)

noonki · 13/02/2009 21:28

ps don't worry about the friend thing. With a name that classic it won't matter.

bodiddly · 13/02/2009 21:28

Much as I hate to say it I am not sure I would worry too much about friends' children's names - friendships come and go but the name you pick will be for life so as long as you love it that is all that matters. We picked a name for our ds before he was born and then friends of ours (whose baby was due before ours) used it for their ds when he was born (sadly he died at birth). We then felt we could not use the name when ds was born a few months later ... for obvious reasons, but now 4 years later we no are no longer in touch and in theory could have used the name anyway.

Sunflower100 · 13/02/2009 21:28

Edward is nice but somehow doesn't feel quite us. I don't feel im posh enough

All nice but i've always had a thing about Sid/Sidney but never been allowed lol

kittywise · 14/02/2009 08:43

They are all fine apart from Daniel which is as dull as ditch water, don't go there. I have never known an interesting Daniel.

nappyaddict · 18/02/2009 12:51

I only like Sidney. All the others are a bit too popular.

beanieb · 18/02/2009 12:53

I love Sid, have you thought of Syd?

TheFallenMadonna · 18/02/2009 12:54

I like Daniel very much. Do names have to be 'exciting'? And Joseph.
I like Edmund more than Edward.

I think Sidney is blah, and Noah too.

rachels103 · 18/02/2009 13:03

I like Edward shortened to Ned more than Ted personally. Joe is lovely and if it's your favourite I'd go with it regardless. Noah's nice but maybe a bit overused at the moment.
