'European' name for DD1

Hi, I'm looking for a 'European' name for DD1. We live in and are from the UK but have family in Spain and there is a potential move to Italy for a year or two with DH's work. It is important for us that the name we choose works well outside the UK. Any suggestions? Thanks.

not sure, woollymummy but I think Nina might be a slang term or have another meaning in Italian - I remember mentioning it to an Italian friend as a possible name and she said she wouldn't use it for some reason.

Have you noticed that nearly all these names end in 'a'? In my daughter's class (we live in Belgium, obviously I guess from my name) and all the girls' names end either in 'a' or 'e'. Sara, Lisa, Lola, Elena, Sophia, Alice, Morgiane, Elfine, Marine, Christine, Aurélie, Aurore.

Some lovely names already, thank you.

harpomarx - in spanish 'nina' means 'girl'.

kalo12 - I especially like all your suggestions.

Thanks so much everyone, some very pretty names there which I think would work. It's going to be difficult to choose which one!

Will run these by DH at the weekend and hopefully see if we can agree on a list of three or four potential names.

Have you considered Ariane?

it was chosen for the space rockets because it was considered to be a pan european name.

Veronika, Laura, Vanessa, Elizabeth, Julia, Tania, Ayla, Cristina, Anna....are all girls in my childrens school in germany.

VeryAnnieMary · 11/02/2009 09:11

Caroline, perhaps? You could have a look at the names of European royalty past and present for inspiration.

kalo12 · 12/02/2009 11:16

you have to tell us what you choose
