Barnaby - too posh? too babyish?

I like Oliver, dh likes Cameron, we both like Barnaby. Except is it too posh (we live in grotty part of a city and we'll send him to local comp and is it silly on an adult? I tried doing the Prime Minister and plumber test and I think a PM called Barnaby is fine but it sounds silly for a plumber.

Rather reminds me too much of Barnaby the Bear.

I suppose it could always get shortened down to Barney which is ok for an adult.

I have a Barnaby. My side of the family are quite poncetastic, DH's side are definately not. All the family call him Barney or Barnes, but my friends call him Barnaby. DH is very blokish, works with his hands, goes to all the home football matches and is a regular in the local pub. He had to make sure Barney/ Barnes would fit all those actvities and he is very pleased with the name. In fact it has only been my definately posh next door neighbour who said that Barnaby is a big name for a little chap!

I prefer Barnabas, but that's even posher I'm afraid. I think Barnaby is just too bear at the moment, so I'd go with Barnabas or not at all.

Barney is ok tho'. I like that. Bart short for Bartholomew is along the same lines.

I like Jeremy, Gregory and Zachary too, all less posh than Barnaby.

What about Columba? (in same style as Barnabas!)

I love it. DD would have been Barnabus/Barnaby. I think Barney or Barnes passes the plumber test

I really like Barnaby. Its a lovely, classic name thats not (yet?) too common.

For a child, Barny, is cute, and as a teenager he can always call himself Barny or Barnes.

Also really like Atticus !!

It's gorgeous, as is Oliver. He can always be Barney if Barnaby feels too "posh". I don't like Cameron but did teach a lovely one many years ago!

I have a Barnaby its a cool name IMHO (he was named just before they launched Barnaby Bear!)

We don't call him Barney but some of his teachers do, he says he doesn't mind but he would be too shy/polite to say to them if he did!

I think it is a silly joke sort of name not posh at all.

I love the name Bruno and I was told 'no too bear' to that as well.
