I watched the Sound of Music the other day and really loved this name! Any opinions?

I like that it is pronounced the same in most countries.

I love it. And I know I only love it because the girl in the film is so sweet. But I still love it.

Not sure

But probably would be called Tomato like Khara said.

I know a Marva!

Tbh I think nicknames are more about the child than the name really - if a child is going to be picked on some cruel nickname will be twisted out of their name whatever it is, whereas a popular child can be named Scud and not get teased.

Marta is my middle name, but I tell people that it's Martha, as that's bad enough. Don't do it.

Was going to come and say one of my favouritest MNers is a Marta but MKG has already outed herself.

I like it actually. It's pretty and better than the ubiqutous Martha which is lovely but taking over the world now.

In German (and probably French and Spanish), Martha would be pronounced Marta anyway because they don't have the 'th' sound.
