I really like Matilda & Ilse. Unusual & beautiful. Not sure how they go with Mary though?

As for the boys names- I think Dylan is lovely. Zachary is relatively unusual & quite nice (although I much prefer Dylan). Sam I don't like, sounds very american to me (not in a good way). Rory is quite nice too.

cyteen · 01/02/2009 12:43

good choices i particularly like susannah and esther from your girls' list although not keen on ilse as it makes me think of this pulp movie.

like all your boys' names too. how about isaac or elisha?

belgo · 01/02/2009 12:44

Esther Mary or Esther Marie sounds lovely.

I like Dylan. What about David?

MrsMattie · 01/02/2009 12:45

I really like Eliana and Esther. Gorgeous names.

For the boys, Zachary (although extremely popular) is a classic. I also love Sam/Samuel, although also very popular.

minxofmancunia · 01/02/2009 12:50

I think Esther ia my fave so far but dh won't agree with me !

Didn't relise Zachary was so popular Mrs. Mattie, like David but not Dave and like Isaac too.

Used ti like Matthew but experiences with horrendous ex flatmate with that name has put me off!

Do people think esther naomi goes?

belgo · 01/02/2009 12:53

Esther Naomi goes perfectly.

minxofmancunia · 01/02/2009 12:55

That might be my combination then, for what it's worth I think I'm having a girl (if the sperm/ov gap theory is anything to go by!)

Zachary/Zack is very common in these parts (north London). As is Isaac, actually. Both lovely, classic names, though, not 'fashion' names, so go for them if you love them.

Mary is such a pretty name, too.

Esther Naomi is beautiful.

minxofmancunia · 01/02/2009 12:57

In M/Cr most popular boys names seem to be jack, ben, george, Luke/Luca and Louie is mega mega popular!

I like all of your girls except Eleanor & not too keen on Susannah. My faves are Matilda (I have one) and Esther.

I like your husband's choices too fwiw.

2Helenback · 02/02/2009 14:58

My sister is an Esther. She hated it growing up as she wanted to disappear into the background, and it was v unusual in the 70s/80s. Also, at the time Thst's life had the talking dog that said "Esther" and "sausages" which didn't help. However, she now loves it and has given her own girls names that are colours and seasons and are pretty left-field.

In 15 years of teaching I have never ever taught an Esther, so it's pretty rare.

Esther does shorten badly, and poor sis got called Fez by boys at high school.

Wheelybug · 02/02/2009 15:02

Love Dylan/Rory/Zachary. Would be on my list for my current brew other than the fact DH doesn't like Dylan and we can't have the other two as know one of each and they're too close to use. Funnily enough Sam would be on DH's list but I don't like it !

Girls - Love Esther (DH doesn't !), also Lucy. The others are fine but I wouldn't rave about them.

CatchaStar · 02/02/2009 15:07

My fovourite would be Matilda and Lucy. Have you thought about Elsie?

Boys I'd have to go with Sam, but would make it Samuel to sound better with the middle name, i.e. Samuel John and keep Sam as the 'shortened' version.

TooFoggy · 02/02/2009 15:32

Elena is lovely!

blowninonabreeze · 02/02/2009 15:36

We're a fan of Elena in this house too

Plus we have a Lucy in amongst our names. Girls names wise your list is remarkably similar to ours for DD2. I really really wanted Isla but It REALLY REALLY didn't go with our surname

Bubbaluv · 02/02/2009 15:44

I like Esther Naomi - lovely.
What about Rachel - another good old testament name.
Eli John for a boy?

chaya5738 · 02/02/2009 18:59

Esther Naomi IS lovely.

Here are some more suggestions for Hebrew names:

Girls: Miriam, Rebecca, Leah, Noa
Boys: Reuben, Issac, Noah, Isaiah, Nathaniel, Gabriel
