Hi all

We decided on the name Aoife (Ee-fe) at my 20 week scan when we found out we were having a girl, but now at 32 weeks I'm wondering if its a nice name or not (think this is also pregnancy brain and indecision).

DH refers to baby as Aoife and so think he will find it really hard if I say I don't like it anymore...anyone have any thoughts?

Aoife sounds nice but looks awful. You will be pronouncing it for ever or people will call her Oif

I love it, it is on our list too. I don't think you should have too many problems with pronounciation as it is becoming more common. Also it is from the same ilk as names like Evie which is also more common these days so doesn't sound as different as it may have done a few years ago.

Eabha pronounced Ava? (I am Irish from b=Belfast but in Cork, kerrrymum is in Kerry, Chipmonkey, Buda, Tna who changes a bit is in Wicklow, Trefusis...there are others...Pinktulips) we were all listed on the other thread, can't remember what it was about!

This word was slang for poo when I was a child! So I always think it is an odd name choice - but then I am not Irish!

I really like Aoife but think it would become a nightmare with spelling.
I have a Niamh and that is quite bad as some people don't know how to say it when it's written down or how to spell it if they've only heard it spoken. But at the end of the day if you really like it then go for it.

Can you pronounce this name Ay fa rather than ee fa. I wanted Niamh for a first name but Niamh Aoife - Neve Ee fa sounds a bit too much maybe or does it??

Suggestions please..

Aoife is pronounced ee-fa.
If you name a girl Niamh Aoife it would be pronounced nee-uv ee-fa

Hi, my darling daughter who is 3 (4 in July) is called Caoimhe. It means precious and beautiful - which she is :-). You may have problems with people spelling it and mispronunciation but hey that's their problem! Caoimhe can spell it herself which is no mean feat. Good luck with your baby and choosing her name.
