Is it pronounced like Carrie?

Lemontart · 23/01/2009 10:47

I know a little girl called Cerys which is shortened to Carey. Dad is welsh though..

MrsJoeMcIntyre · 23/01/2009 10:47

Reminds me of Mariah. Which is a good thing in my book, but maybe wouldn't be for the majority of people!

yellowflowers · 23/01/2009 11:05

Lovely name.Pronounced like Mariah's surname

MrsMattie · 23/01/2009 11:06

Mariah connotations and very American, but I don't hate it. It could grow on me

mumof2andabit · 23/01/2009 11:12

Love it! Would probably spell it Cari or carrie but I'm just being difficult!

annasmami · 23/01/2009 11:12

Sounds a little 70s and American to me, but a nice name nevertheless.

lastboxoftampons · 23/01/2009 11:20

The only Carey I know is a guy.
Do know plenty of Carrie's though.

Makes me think of SJP and Sex in the City

PrimulaVeris · 23/01/2009 11:27

What MrsMattie said. I don't normally like this sort of american-style name at all but ... it's actually quite nice. Like it.

Though ... Mariah; and that last archbishop of canterbury who used to drone on a lot

LadyArden · 23/01/2009 12:04

Pronounced like Mariah.

It's actually an Irish surname, but there is Carey Lowell (Richard Gere's wife) and an up and coming Brit (I think) actress called Carey Mulligan.

I think it's quite nice, although might be confused with Kerry or Carrie.

I know one adult lady called Carey and think it's lovely, really suits her.

LadyArden · 23/01/2009 12:24

Agree with Primula, not the style of name I would normally go for but it has a nice ring about it.

The only male Carey I can think of was Enid Blyton's brother.

Carrie is common spelling, i think or Kerry
I think if you spell Carey, people will spell Carrie iyswim
I have friend with Rebekah, people always spell Rebecca.

AtheneNoctua · 23/01/2009 12:31

I know a Carey. She is lovely. But, she has spent her life being associated with Jim when she explains how to spell it.

motherlovebone · 23/01/2009 12:36

like the Joni Mitchell song...love it!

oohlaalaa · 22/06/2011 10:38

I know this is an old thread, but I like the name too. Found it when googling Carey.

Is it pronounced Ca-rey, or Keh-riy?

razzlebathbone · 22/06/2011 15:57

I think it's lovely for either a boy or girl.

tammytoby · 23/06/2011 13:50

I like Carey. Could be a nickname for Caroline.

oohlaalaa · 27/06/2011 14:52

Thanks. I love the name. I think it should be pronounced Keh-ree. I prefer the pronounciation Ca-rey. Can I have my own pronounciation. I prefer spelling Carey to Carrie.

Thanks again.

MissHonkover · 27/06/2011 15:15

It's definitely care-ee (like Mariah), not Kerry or Carrie, because they are, er, Kerry and Carrie.

I love Carey! Also like Cory.

superjobeespecs · 27/06/2011 15:19

immediately thought kay-ray like mariah and jim, bloody nice name but too like my DDs good job i didnt see this before finding out we're having a boy or DHTB would be getting nagged to agree that its not to similar to DDs name even tho it really is its beyond a joke they are basically the same name Grin

oohlaalaa · 27/06/2011 15:20
