I over heard a mum call her DD this in Monsoon the other day.

A nn perhaps?

Could she have misheard? Bunty?

bookthief · 14/01/2009 23:43

Oh dear. That's unfortunate..

LynetteScavo · 14/01/2009 23:45

No definately Binty.

Little Binty was bored, and her Mum was getting quite annoyed with her.

(I've never got annoyed with my bored Dc's in shops, oh no. )

I'm sure there was a great great aunt somewhere in the family who was Arabinta, known as binty. Sounds very Georgette Heyer!

mumoverseas · 15/01/2009 05:48

bint is girl in arabic but like BBB says, in a lot of places its a derogatory (sp?) term

daisy5 · 15/01/2009 10:12

The only Binty I know, is actually Belinda.

daisy5 · 15/01/2009 10:13

usually Bindy tbh

daisy5 · 15/01/2009 10:13

Or Arabinta - that is a name isn't it?

breadandroses · 15/01/2009 10:15

It means "daughter" in Arabic. But it's a more usual form of address than saying "daughter" in English, iyswim.

Araminta is a name.
