Would you still choose the same names for your DC's?

Particularly if you have older kids. I know some people deliberately chose more unusual names 10 years ago only for them to become massively popular a few years later!

I still love all my DC's names and actually although I didn't choose my middle dd's name (her Dad loved it and I gave in) but it really suits her and despite it apparently being hugely popular I don't know that many Jessicas.

I know a lovely girl named Brittany aged 13 but her surname rhymes with Spears (who wasn't known when she named her dd) so she regrets it now!

DD is only 6y anyway but yes, I still like her name a lot and it does suit her.

Yes, I love the names I chose. But they are only 4 and 1 so there's time yet, lol.

No, I would have named them all after flowers so I could say I'd got a bunch of flowers! Lily, Daisy, Poppy and Rose. Quite like Tulip apart from the tulips on your organ thing! Maybe Violet or Petunia.

Yes - they are just pretty, solid sorts of names, although they have both adapted them in ways that we hadn't quite bargained for!

The girl and boy's name we chose for dc1 was the same, as in robert/roberta, daniel/daniella etc (not very good examples, but anyway). Actually preferred it for the girl's name, but we had a boy. DC2 was a girl, so should have waited and chosen another name for ds. Does that make ANY sense?

My dd1 is Lilly, spelt wrong by me to rhyme with Billy and Silly! There are loads of Lilys, so mine went through primary as Lilly T, along with Lily D and Lily B. Surnames, not alphabetical! I then had a Molly, again very common!

Why is it, if the person becomes the name, people with the same name often have the same characteristics? Eg, Mollys are usually naughty.

My DD2 is Lily - she's not sweetness and light at all - far from it!! Although she is beautiful and angelic looking. I only know a couple of others and they are quiet, sweet little angels

I might have chosen a different name for DD if I'd known there were going to be so many - it has really shot up in popularity, and I know there will be at least two others in her year at school. What would I have called her though?????

My DS has a hyphenated name. I think I would have chose a different name for the 2nd part cos it begins with a J and now everyone insists on calling him by his initials which I hate.

Sometimes I toy with the fact they should have been Elinor and Struan.

I was never that struck on Elinor and dh doesn't like Struan hence our two have the names they have now!

My sister has a Jade (a few months before 'The Goody' arrived).

She really regrets it, as she very nearly chose Amber. She's spent ages trying to come up with a nickname but because the name is so short, no where to go. The best she has come up with is Jaye which is not that inspired.......

All the names I've liked for years and years are suddenly very popular now.

Didn't put me off choosing the name we chose for DD as it was a good compromise - I loved the name and DH loved the nickname, so she is called both.

I didn't realise it was quite as popular as it is though, when we went to register her it was number 10 I think in the top ten names.

Have always loved Caitlin and Ellie too and they are v v popular now. Don't think that would put me off though.

i was only 17 when i had my 1dd and her name is cody it suits her but i dont think i would of chose it now not to keen on it now lol poor child ..

I LOVE my dd1's name. DH hates it and says had he been around he would not have let me name her that. She would have a normal name and not a made up one.

MY choices for dd2 were Amelie, Angel, Alyssa or Anja. Dh hated all of them. Stating again that they were made up names. He wanted to call her Sophie, which I don't like so we let dd1 choose. It's not a name I would have chosen myself, but its growing on me.

I love ds's name. It is very normal, but I have loved it all my adult life. He is only 4 months old, and it suits him down to a t.

My 3 dc all have very traditional names ,my 2 ds both have names which are in the top ten lists and probably have been for about 100 years.my dd is not in top ten but still is a very traditional name.I think they suit their names, although had I known how my dd would be , ie dramatic, very individual and arty I may have called her scarlet although she would have liked to be called lola. Some made up type names and ultra of the moment names sometimes not always correctly fit a "type " of person and can lead to judgements being made re class etc. It's a big resposibility , my name is very sixties , boring and I don't like it. My dh liked ben for a boy, but I knew too many dogs by that name!

I would have gone for a slightly different version of my son's name - something almost the same but not quite. I wanted it originally, but DH preferred the version we chose. Still love his name, though.

Love my DD's name. Wouldnt change it for the world.

Love DS1s name - it would have been the same / similar had he been a girl.

DS2s name i also love it is alot more unusual. I've never met another and only found two on the internet.

Neither name i'll ever find on mugs / keyrings (which could be a downside) but at least i only have to put their first names on school stuff.
