Kiri Te Kanawa is NZ Maori, not Australian (geez, first Crowded House, now Kiri!). Her surname is Te Kanawa, first name Kiri, so not all that out-there.

lol try living here and doing a roll call or writing sport certificates! Maori is easy compared to the pacific island names with lots of vowels and a few apostraphes but then I spend alot of time saying ds's names are not maz and jake but something different!!

I've got nothing against the obviously Maori names, some of which are quite pretty. But there is no z in the Maori alphabet - "Rlexuz" "Chantz" "Korizma"???
