Stanley or Hugo?

We still can't agree on a boys name. DH likes both of these - what do you think? I know Hugo is a bit posh but if it is DS he will be a public school boy anyway so it might work???

Surname is Johnson and will be brother to Charles.

Stanley is awful - Stan the Man!
Hugo is great go with that - good luck xxx

Niecie · 12/01/2009 15:53

Hugo.

Stanley and Charles don't match. Different class (for want of a better way of saying that doesn't take a page to write)

Stanley is a name for old men from Corrie.

SAEJ · 12/01/2009 17:23

Hmm, a pretty even split!!!

Mrswolf - we can't have Hugh because it sounds too much like Huge Johnson!! My DH pointed this out!!

Hugo

LiffeyMermaid · 12/01/2009 18:34

Hugo

WinkyWinkola · 12/01/2009 18:35

Stanley is a great name. It's got resonance.

Hugo is lovely too but as you say, I think it's v. posh.

Like both, prefer Stanley.

pointydog · 12/01/2009 19:50

Stanley is only marginally better

pamelat · 12/01/2009 19:50

Stanley is now hip like Alfie and Archie rather than Coronation Street like, in my opinion.

pointydog · 12/01/2009 19:51

Yes. ANother point against

Tillyscoutsmum · 12/01/2009 19:52

I love them both but think Hugo goes better with Charles

YouLukaBeautiful · 12/01/2009 19:53

Stanley if he will grow up to be short and fat, Hugo if he'll be tall and slim

pamelat · 12/01/2009 20:29

Stanley could become too popular its true.

dizzydixies · 12/01/2009 20:36

Hugo - its just fab, dh wouldn't let me have it then again, we did have only girls!

dinkymum · 12/01/2009 21:38

Hugo

xxhunnyxx · 12/01/2009 21:57

Sorry but I don't like either.

LuckySalem · 12/01/2009 21:57

We've got a cat named Hugo (sorry)

zanz1bar · 12/01/2009 22:05

Stan the little man, go for it

LynetteScavo · 12/01/2009 22:07

Hugo.

I love the name Hugo. DS2 was all set to be Hugo, then when he was born it just didn't suit him.

auberginesrus · 04/03/2010 13:13

Lol I know this is an old thread but my ds2 is Hugo Stanley

AllieW · 04/03/2010 13:53

Hugo. Love it. Also consider Hugh/Huw.

RubiMama · 04/03/2010 15:00

Stanley definitely. The problem with Hugo is you can't even say it without it sounding posh, and do you like Hugh, which it could get shortened to?

RubiMama · 04/03/2010 15:05

Sorry, just re read your OP . I actually think Hugo sounds much better with Charles, unless he gets called Charlie in which case I think Charlie and Stanley sound good together. Charles and Stanley don't hang together IMO - Stanley just not in the same 'class' as Charles IYSWIM!

twosofar · 04/03/2010 17:57

My son is called Stanley Charles Thomas Surname and I think it sounds lovely...obviously! IMHO I way prefer Stanley.

Hugo sounds effete, foppish and a bit wet lettuce to me...
