I've already posted a message re my favourite name Anna, but I don't think dp will budge. Which do you prefer of these two names as a first name? Surname is Holmes. Please help. It's getting urgent! Thanks!

Amelie. It's classy and beautiful.

Sophie is popular and boring and is interchangeable with Chloe.

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 11/01/2009 19:35

Honestly?

Anna.

But of the two, Sophie.

cremeeggs · 11/01/2009 19:38

Sophie or Sophia as timeless, classic and beautiful.

Dottoressa · 11/01/2009 19:42

Of those, Sophie. I really don't like Amelie - if you want that name, why not spell it properly (or in English) and use Amelia?

I think it's nearly as common as Sophie where I live. Can't you persuade your DP to go for Anna?

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 11/01/2009 19:44

Oh, didn't realise Sophia was on option, prefer that actually.

Coldtits · 11/01/2009 19:44

Amelie

twentypence · 11/01/2009 19:45

Amelie Holmes sounds like a business. Actually so does Sophia (must be a 3 syllable thing)

Like Sophie, but have to admit I like Anna most of all.

annasmami · 11/01/2009 20:34

I prefer Anna - its timeless, classic and not too common. Goes well with Holmes.

Sophie, Sophia, Amelie, Amelia are all very common atm, but if I had to choose one, I'd say Sophia.

Cies · 11/01/2009 20:35

Sophia or Amelia. Or Anna.

xxhunnyxx · 11/01/2009 20:41

I love the name Amelie but Sofia is a lovely name too.
I've wanted Amelie for a DD through the whole year I was TTC but DP doesn't like it, he just said ''uh? what? no!''
I know it's a bit of a funny name as she'd spend her life saying ''no, Am-e-lie not Emily'' and would have to constantly spell it to people. But despite this I still think it's a lovely name. I also think it looks nice when written IYSWIM?
I think Sophie is a nice name but IMO maybe a bit ordinary and it's been around for a while.

backalleysally · 11/01/2009 20:44

Sophia or Anna.

CrackopentheBaileys · 11/01/2009 20:51

completely agree with xxhunnyxx. I have an Amelia, and originally wanted her to be Amelie. But I could see her always having to spell it for people and getting called Emily all the time

noonki · 11/01/2009 20:54

sophia is beautiful

changer22 · 11/01/2009 20:57

Sophia

SoLongMarianne · 11/01/2009 21:00

Sophie. But agree with you tht Anna is the one.

llynnnn · 11/01/2009 21:00

sorry can i ask a thick question, how do u pronounce amelie? like emily or am-ellie

i personally love sophie

CrackopentheBaileys · 11/01/2009 21:03

llynnn, it's just like emily with an 'am' instead of the 'em'. It's French, and quite pretty I think

llynnnn · 11/01/2009 21:04

thanks, yes it is very pretty, ive just always wondered
