Baby names beginning with the letter N

I'm wondering whether you all might be able to give me some suggestions for baby names beginning with the letter N!

My wonderful Dad died suddenly in 2006 and his first name was Nigel - he was the best Dad, but he didn't have the best of names!

I really want to honour my Dad but neither of us want to call our baby Nigel or Nigella!

Nona (to add to the list)

Why not just use Nigel or Nigella as a middle name?

Lisey09 · 08/01/2009 22:25

My goodness! All so quick!

I hadn't considered going down the names meaning route, thanks Choosy - good idea!

Thank you so much everyone... my man is really choosey - I will see what he says about your suggestions!

I used a family members name as a middle name as a tribute to him, but I really didn't fancy it as a first name.

beanieb · 08/01/2009 22:31

Niall?

It's a version of Nigel.

Nell for a girl?

Nancy

What about Nigel/Nigella as a middle name?

Lisey09 · 08/01/2009 22:53

Some really unusual names coming up!

After watching The Matrix some time ago, we considered Neo, but thought maybe that was a bit too way out... I'm really liking some that you have come up with!

Thank you!

also lisey do remember your dad was named by someone else (presumably a parent but sometimes something like mumsnet)

what names did he like? he must have chosen yours, what was the boy alternative?

justneedsomesleep · 08/01/2009 22:58

Nero is a proper name, close to Neo. Means dark/black haired.
We considered this name and Cole for our son as it had a similar meaning. However, Nero was a Roman Emperon, renowned for his cruelty which put us off a bit! Just thought I should tell you. However, guessing that wouldn't register much with people now. Most people thought I'd made the name up!

Lisey09 · 08/01/2009 23:00

That's a really good point Fishie, thank you! I hadn't really considered that.

I'll have to ask my Mum what he wanted- see if she remembers!!

Tinker · 12/01/2009 11:35

I'd use them as middle names. Or did your dad have a middle name thta you could use?

SoLongMarianne · 12/01/2009 16:21

Agree with Tinker,

CuppaTeaJanice · 12/01/2009 16:29

Did your dad have a middle name? Or could you use a name based on his surname (assuming different to baby's)? Or another name associated with him - nickname, birth town, favourite place, occupation etc.? Just using an 'N' name seems a bit of a tenuous link.

dizzydixies · 12/01/2009 16:31

I love both Nancy and Nina for girl

Noah for a boy

would agree with middle name thing though, all my girls have mns after relatives/important people in their lives and although I wouldn't choose them per say its lovely to have them in there

dizzydixies · 12/01/2009 16:31

Nico for either

troutpout · 12/01/2009 16:32
