These baby name threads? Does anyone ever ask for opinions on names like James or Matthew?

Or are they always for truly daft names? And yes, yes, yes, I know I'm being judgmental.

People sometimes say 'daniel' how many do YOU know...

I guess with Matthew or James you know nobody is going to say Whaaaaat? The only reservation if you like the name would be HOW popular it is.

My dds are 12 and 15. They have middle names which are now top twenty - but horrified MIL by being too old fashioned when we used them. DD2's first name is also moving up...

like them both - bit dull though but good mn fodder

(AnnaLivia is a lovely name...)

You sometimes get lists of names which include 'traditional' ones ... but threads asking about just one name tend to be a bit more ... avant-garde (?)

I think the baby name threads are amongst the funniest on MN.

See when people post, they are almost never asking about safe name choices - they are usually names they feel a bit uncertain about. Which means a certain degree of whackiness.

My most favourite name choice on here was "Bear". For ages after that I couldn't stop myself from helpfully posting animal-name suggestions on every baby-name thread.

Yesterday's was good though - Brucie for a girl. UmmHmmm

I agree Quattro - they are funny. Particularly when the OP gets huffy and says, "Well, I like it and I don't care what anyone else thinks..." Well, why did you ask for opinions then?

Since I like 'boring' names, I like to think that in 10 years, John or Mary type names will be pretty unusual.
