I had always planned to call my DD2 Ursula.I had to wait 20 years for her and during the pg I heard my mum say Urshala and couldn't bear the thought of listening to people pronounce it wrong for the rest of her life (there is no SH in the name)

(so instead we picked a name that people hearing it spell wrong and people seeing it written say it wrong )

Really like Ursula, don't like Enid.

Flihgtattendant · 28/12/2008 15:38

Ds2 is Ursula. Well he would have been

Flihgtattendant · 28/12/2008 15:39

But ex hated it, and when he came round one day and said 'It's ok, you can call her that if you want, and I'll just call her Sully' that I completely decided I was having a boy...

Enid

as Ursula ends up being called Urs and I think that is hideous

Tinker · 28/12/2008 16:17

Ursula

Enid is a really ugly name, I think.

Ursula.

Enid is horrid.

MiaWallace · 28/12/2008 16:42

Sorry but my first thought when I hear the name Ursula is the sea witch in The Little Mermaid. Therefore I would pick Enid.

ScummyMummy · 28/12/2008 17:00

I'm not keen on either, really. Sorry

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 28/12/2008 17:11

Ursula but only because Enid is dreadful.

Would you honestly want to be called Enid? Honestly?

SnowOfHands · 28/12/2008 17:14

Enid's great. I would love to be called Enid.

piscesmoon · 28/12/2008 20:02

If I was called Enid I would keep it a deep, dark secret!

mumoverseas · 28/12/2008 20:12

definitely Ursula. Thats my name and I'm not hairy or a bloody sea witch!
Enid is an old persons name!

Podrick · 28/12/2008 20:15

Neither

SnowballsintheSky · 28/12/2008 20:18

Ursula, lovely name.

Enid sounds like the witch in Willo the Wisp, although I know that was Evil Edna. Enids are old and mean anyway

girlandboy · 28/12/2008 20:22

Ursula is my favourite of the two.

Don't really like Enid I'm afraid. Too much Malory Towers & Noddy connotations with Enid Blyton.

Sorry.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 28/12/2008 20:22

Neither. they are hard, harsh names IMO.

CrushWithEyeliner · 28/12/2008 20:53

Ursula - pronounced like the Austrian OOOrrsula is just the classiest name ever. Love Ursi for short too.....

Enid I don't like at all

TheYearOfTheCat · 28/12/2008 20:57

Really, some people can be so rude!

Ursula is a great name, with St Ursula being a great role model for women. Legend is that she rebelled against being married off to a much older man for a political marriage, and instead devoted herself to her faith. She travelled around Europe, and gathered a large following of like minded women. She is rumoured to have been martyred on the banks of the Rhone along with 11,000 virgins.

Some versions of the legend differ slightly, but the qualities that I see are that she was principled, strong, courageous and a great leader. Principles I would certainly wish for my DD.

Disney have ruined the name in the popular imagination with the Little Mermaid, however I am fairly certain that it was not the name of the sea witch in the original Hans Christian Andersen story.

yay, I love TYOTC

fourlittlestockingedfeet · 28/12/2008 21:11

ursula

TheBlonde · 28/12/2008 21:30

Prefer Ursula

mumblemumhome4lunch · 28/12/2008 21:56

Names are such a personal choice there will always be someone that "hates" whatever name you choose so don't be swayed if you really like it or have a particular reason for wanting to use it.

My lil'darling sleeping sweetly after her manic second birthday today is Enid Ursula so I am probably a little biased in favour of both these names!

Enid was my Nan who I grew up with and was very very close to and Ursula was my partners Aunt/Godmother. Mind you if they had names like Jane or Sally or any of the others we don't like DD wouldn't have been named after them no matter the fond memories!!!!

seringoutthosebellstonight · 28/12/2008 23:18

Ursula, unless your surname is major!
