Boy's name to go with DS1 Vincent - how about Travis?

Hi, I've just found out I'm expecting another boy and don't really want to go for one that was on my shortlist before as it feels like they are second best - this rules out Ben, Logan, Joe, Harrison, Lucas, Isaac and Dylan. DH suggested Travis, which I really like but don't know if its a bit "trendy" - any thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated!

Not for me personally but if you like it go for it.

Nancy66 · 19/12/2008 12:35

it's the old 'surname as first name' thing - which, personally, i don't like.

Not a name I'd go for. A bit Yankified and - dare I say it - a bit chav.

CountessDracula · 19/12/2008 12:36

Travis is not good IMO

CountessDracula · 19/12/2008 12:41

Jules is the obvious choice I reckon

BlueChampagne · 19/12/2008 12:48

Doesn't do it for me. Hope your surname isn't Perkins ...

pgwithnumber3 · 19/12/2008 12:49

How about Guy? Goes well with Vincent.

JennieClare · 19/12/2008 12:56

Bluechampagne - we started to call the baby Travis Perkins as a joke before we found out the sex but it has now sort of stuck - we'd obviously have to make an effort to drop the Perkins bit after the birth but I want to make a decision now before we can't imagine changing the name (BTW DS1 is only 12 months old so it hardly seems like 2 minutes since we went through all this and I have very little enthusiasm for picking a name this time!)

Are they going to be Country singers?

changer22 · 19/12/2008 13:03

I know a lovely Irish Vincent and so always think of it as an Irish name. It's obviously Italian too so could you think of an Irish/Italian name?

I'm afraid I'm not very keen on Travis - bit too trendy for me - but can't suggest any helpful alternatives.

BlueChampagne · 19/12/2008 13:24

Tee hee - well, someone had to say it
How about Justin? Do you do 2nd names?

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 19/12/2008 19:43

Richie or Donald or Bruce

Justin is q. nice too, and goes fairly well with Vincent. I find it a bit mainstream next to Vincent. Donald or Bruce are BOLD but also on their way back into fashion. They will be like the Esmes, Ediths and Dulcies are to girls' names - in a few years.

Dominic and Marcus sound like two names that have an Irish/Italian flavour.

Julius/Leo/Gregory/Dominic/Louis all give me an Irish/Italian vibe. Classic catholic names not the boring old saints names like St Anthony iyswim.

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 19/12/2008 19:44

The last list is a list of popes' names by the way.

2pt4WiseMen · 19/12/2008 19:45

I like Travis. Goes well with Vincent too imo

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 19/12/2008 19:47

But how will you stop yourself from singing "why does it always rain on meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, is it because I lied when I was seventeeeeeeen?"

maretta · 19/12/2008 19:49

I like it.

prettybutterfly · 19/12/2008 20:51

Thumbs down for Travis.

Vincent goes with ... erm ... ??

Can't think.

I like it though!

Gregor?

audley · 20/12/2008 09:59

I think Travis goes well with Vincent, and I like the suggestions of Marcus and Gregory too

WorzselMincepieYummage · 20/12/2008 12:44

Hugo goes well with vincent

sorkycake · 20/12/2008 13:20

isn't Travis a tractor off Bob the Builder?

lljkk · 20/12/2008 13:26

I really hate Travis, sorry, all I can think is 'Perkins'...

I know a Vincent whose little brother is Lloyd. I would think towards other old-fashioned formal names, like Edgar, Raymond, Anthony -- Hugo is good, too.

gingerteam · 20/12/2008 21:08

Leon, Leo or Michael could work assuming they match the surname.

mazzystartled · 20/12/2008 21:13

Love Vincent

But Travis - immediately think of Travis Bickle [Taxi Driver]

which is Not Good At All

janeite · 20/12/2008 21:23

I don't know who Travis Perkins is but I immediately thought of that awful "Why does it always rain on me" song. I don't like it as a name, at all, sorry.

Vincent is a good, solid name and needs a good, solid name to accompany it imho - Barnaby / Gabriel / Benjamin / Benedict / Jacob / Samuel sort of names.

andlipsticktoo · 20/12/2008 21:26

Do the names have to 'go together'? I don't get that.
They will spend most of their lives independent from one another.

Don't like Travis at all though. Nope definitely not.
